A rock hit my windshield when my maverick was 2 weeks old. Drove home and by the time I woke and drove 1 block the next day the crack was already 8 inches. Didn’t even have a chance to have it repaired. The new windshield already has a couple nicks and my Maverick is only 6 months old. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have had to replace my windshield 3.5 times in not even two years since owning, from rocks smashing into glass. One of the times required me to have the pillar repainted. The .5 time was having to stop a crack from spreading from a rock that worked, but the crack remained, until another rock hit the glass.

This last time really pissed me off, as saw the hit happen, and the crack spread across the glass, There was a medium size truck in front of me, but not for at least 45 yards.

The way i see it:
1 time bad luck
2 time bad luck/coincidence
3 times starting to think theres some design aerodynamic issues going on
3.5. Enough is enough.
I think the glass is of poor quality. I have two chips from the smallest of rocks. Even the way the glass cracked was weird.

The least you can do is pay attention.

What about the morons on the Safelite commercial that busted their SUV windshield by loading 2x4’s through the back window 🧐
Inferior glass or inferior IQ🧐

I've been driving a year and a half now, 17,000 miles at least 95% highway driving on the 95 corridor between DC and NJ at about 70mph speeds and not a single issue with the windshield. I am really wondering if people are following traffic super close putting their fairly steep raked windshield at a higher risk for stone damage.
I've found I get more rocks hit if I'm further back. If I'm closer most rocks don't hit road and bounce up onto my truck. I've had about 3 hits with rocks, touch wood nothing major. Now if it's dump truck I stay way back as you can watch rocks falling out of tailgate.

Don't get anywhere near a dump truck. Don't tailgate. 41 years of driving with zero replacements.
I also do not tailgate under normal driving conditions. Of course, this means having to deal with people who will take advantage of this and make you brake because they want that spot in front of you instead of the long empty space behind you. If I can I will not stay in the same lane as a dump truck or a construction truck and will get by them as fast as possible. May stay close when traffic gets jammed up and going slow especially when a lane is ending just to keep the people who force their way in right at the place where the lane ends because, hey, they are entitled and more important than you, from getting in.

Our State Farm policy in Texas is 500 deductible. Lowest allowed if financed.
I don't think they are like a good neighbor.

In 30k mi this year, I've had one chip requiring repair, two minor chips, and scratches so bad the windshield was replaced. Our old rangers and frontier had two minor chips between them over the last ten years or so.

I'm sure it's because the gravel used to be softer back then, right?

Unfortunate that they discontinued the original Aeroskin2 deflector. Some dealers may still have them in their overstock/discontinued items storage.
I put mine on after a rock cracked my Windshield 12 days after buying my Maverick.

I haven't had a rock, rarely any bugs, hit the Windshield since. It's been around a year and a half now.

Mavericks windshields are thin ,go look at the edge on the Mav....I have done body work for 40 years ...they are the thinnest windshields I have seen .Looks like 1/8 inch total ,now when you figure a layer of clear plastic between the two sheets of glass ,I think bugs will cause chips ..ha

I'm not a tailgater. Two second gap most of the time and feel nervous with a one second gap (which is 10 times the gap most people use). Two seconds at 70MPH is about 70yds (204ft).

I did take a good hit this morning at about 70 but didn't see it and can't find any obvious damage. Tailgate or not some rocks come from another lane.

I'm typically unlucky with windshields in that 100% of the time I will take a hit and get a chip within 2 weeks of getting a new windshield so I get to look at it for a few years.
Supposed to be THREE second gap, not 2 or 1!! The Mav adaptive cruise control set on max distance works great.

Ive concluded the Mav is a rock magnet- I had tp replace my windshield within a month of getting it. Have been hit many times since but no new breaks or chips (knock wood).

I've had my 23 Mav Lariat Hybrid a year and a half and have no chips with 20,000 miles, many on highways...Felt a couple of hits, but nothing! I am in central Texas, but when I lived in the Houston area, THAT was the WORST!

That deflector is no longer available anywhere...I checked around everywhere last year when I bought my truck. I put on a tinted transparent one (I think it was an Aeroskin) that has a slight curve to it and so far it has taken a few hits and protected my windshield but time is against me.

What's your "behind dump truck" mpg?
