The wiper controls are off when this happens, which is why it is surprising and unexpected. The Maverick's recessed wiper pocket tends to collect and freeze over when those nasty snow/rain/sleet storms come through, and lifting the wipers up after the fact to chisel things out isn't an option...
I don't think it's needed but it can sure help. I feel like my hybrid takes forever to get up to temp and defrost, even with a remote start cycle and heater adjusted appropriately. It's a pretty good deal for $100 or whatever it is now.
Thanks for the insight. I do not have the heated wiper option. Remote start with defroster only does so much when the gales of November come slashing, and I'm not waiting for breakfast.
I can totally see that. I suppose I'm comparing it to the previous generations of RWD open-diff Rangers/Frontiers/Colorados I've had the pleasure of driving over the years. I'd probably take the Jetta too.
The 4 dealerships I have visited so far have measured my depth anywhere between 3/32 and 8/32. If only they calibrated their gauges like the railroad used to calibrate pocketwatches...
FWD hybrid on stock tires is doing great with snow and ice so far. The improvements in ABS and traction control are remarkable compared to vehicles 10 years ago or so. What used to be a harrowing white knuckle trip in my rwd Ranger is now a pleasant controlled cruise over ice-glazed northern...
My xlt seats are starting to show signs of softness and discoloration 9 months in, but I've been putting on ≈1k mi/week with plenty of idle butt time on top of it. Dirty work clothes don't help either.
The Diamondback cover is incredibly secure, water tight, and is hinged to open front and rear, but is not cheap by any means. If you need something strong and secure, it's worth every penny, all 200,000 of them.
2023 delivered in April with 30k already. No issues.
The braking can be inconsistent if I'm trying to finesse a stop with regen, but it's not grabby or slipping enough to be a problem.
I've locked it up a few times avoiding deer and drunks, and I'm very impressed with the short stopping...
In 30k mi this year, I've had one chip requiring repair, two minor chips, and scratches so bad the windshield was replaced. Our old rangers and frontier had two minor chips between them over the last ten years or so.
I'm sure it's because the gravel used to be softer back then, right?
