Don't put one of those in a truck as the starter battery; it is asking for trouble.
There is nothing wrong with lithium 12v batteries. That belongs in the same misinformation boogey camp as "german cars are built really well" and "no turbo will last 100k miles" and " 0w-20 oil will destroy your engine" nonsense.

Boat guys switched to them years ago, and they love them, because they put up with infrequent charging FAR better then any lead acid, they love sitting at 80% capacity, and their actual usable capacity is significantly larger. They are also a popular conversion for the ryobi 48v lead acid mowers. They are designed to charge with an AGM charge signal and can be configured to report voltage in different ways depending on your vehicle's behavior.

Why the automotive industry is so determined to stick with obsolete battery tech from the 1800s is beyond me.

Sometimes you just lose the lottery. I recondition mine every so often with my CTEK maintainer, so far so good, but my truck was a leftover that sat for like 8 months so that’s hard on a battery. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if I get 5 years. I used to be mad at the charging strategy but in reality it should make the battery last longer since it’s not always being filled to the brim in the hot engine bay environment.

AGM batteries are the only way to go with hybrids in particular. We are on year 2 with our '25 Mav and the battery is still going strong. Many vehicles, not just Mavs or hybrids, only get 3 years out of their batteries so to get 2 and maybe 3 years is not unusual nowadays.

Hello Fellow Ford Drivers,

I have a 2022 Maverick XLT AWD Gasoline engine. I replaced the battery in 2024 and just got another new one in 2026. I've read on the forums about the issue with the system chronically under-charging the battery. My brand new battery has a resting voltage of about 12.15 V. I've tried the Forscan fix of adjusting the charge from 80% to 95% and it hasn't made a difference. Anyone else found something that actually works, short of putting a battery maintainer on it every so often to get it up to full charge?

If using the maintainer is the only option available to us while Ford continues to ignore the issue, how often is it recommended to top it off?

Interestingly enough, when I replaced the battery this last time I asked if there was anything I could do or if I should just expect to replace it again in two years and he shook his head and told me I should expect to do this again in 2028.
Unplug small wire at negative terminal of battery. Will charge at 100%. It will also turn off stop start

2017 RAV4. Original battery still in it. When not being driven it is always plugged in to a Battery Tender Jr. MY 2018 Polaris Slingshot . . . same scenerio.

Ron, @Rwills
Even though I own a hybrid. I find your discovery interesting.
I'm sure EcoBoost owners would be interested in seeing a picture of exactly the wire that you're referring to.

My factory AGM battery (vehicle delivered May 2023) is still going strong.
Yeah my 23 hybrid is still on the factory battery. Only went to power saving mode once when we went on vacation with the wife’s car, and I forgot to remote start the Mav for 10 days.

The guys that programmed all tech stuff on the Maverick were not thinking about Batteries in the real world...they were were programming on the assumption of a new battery in ideal condtions. So you have modems on 24.7 listening for bluetooth, for on air updates, your headlights come on automatically in the morning as you start your car regardless putting a strain on the battery if it low. The AC kicks on the new ones automatically as well, so all this stuff is putting load on the battery needlessly. I found a TSB about this so one thing I did is turn off all the on air updating stuff and just turn it on periodically to update but leave it off. I turned off the modem and now turn the AC off completely so it doesn't start and when my headlights come in the morning and don't need them, I turn them off and let the battery get a nice charge. There are several youtube videos about turning off the 24/7 connectivity and on air updates that are draining the battery at the worst possible time. Furthermore if it initiates an update and your battery gets low before the update finishes, it can cause some issues. So try turning off as much of that crap as possible. You don't need daytime running lights eithers and see how it goes.

Interesting. Our mav is 4 years old and the factory battery is fine. Just replaced the battery on my ram, it was 9 years old. Sounds like there is something draining it.

Well - that's why it went into Deep Sleep Mode - because it hadn't been started for 10 days.

Doesn't mean it was a battery reading that was low, it just doesn't know how much longer it won't be started, so to be on the safe side, disable the modem for remote functions.

Besides - you starting it up and not able to run it long enough to charge up the battery any appreciable amount, will now actually cause another 60-75 min of time with all systems eventually going back to sleep after it stops, but causing more draw during that time. And increasing the chances of something not going to sleep.
There is no benefit to the battery doing that, only potential downsides.

So unplug the battery sensor wire that reports info to the BMS?
Yes my wife only drives 3 miles to work and battery only gets 85 %. When unplugged battery gets 100%. Battery maintenance comes up once a week because she didn't drive far enough
