As we all know the demographic of Maverick Forum members tends to be on the plus side of 50. When a very active member stops posting at all I get a knot in my stomach. I tell myself they just lost interest or are to busy living life to check in. A few that were very regular commenters I haven't seen in a long time are @Maverick Country Club, @oysterville, @Ozarkbeard, @HenryFord. I know there are others that I am forgetting. If any of you long time inactive members see this just want to say we miss your input.

The Ham Radio Community is similar to this forum - lots of geezers.

A member who “disappears” is classified as a “Silent Key” if they fail to respond to repeated attempts to respond.

The term “SK” in the Ham Radio Community is synonymous with a member who has passed away.

If you know you are going to stop using your radio - it is expected to let the community know beforehand so they don’t go through the process of trying to contact you before classifying you as a “Silent Key”.

Ham Radio dudes are a close knit group. Neat technology. Don’t need an internet - just a transmitter & receiver & open sky:)

I'm still standing, better than I ever did. Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid. Sometimes people get tired of forums. I used this forum early on for lots of help. But now lately I just come on here and make some jokes on threads. The reason being is because I can only read so many when should I change my oil, is a hybrid better than a EcoBoost, Ford sucks, look I pimped out my ride, when should I change my transmission fluid, what type of octane should I use, should I use top tier gas or not, should I trade in my Maverick and get something else, things like that.

I'm still here. I visited early on to learn about the truck. I still lurk even though the forum has become boring with people asking the same questions.

Yep have to agree. I'm still fairly frequent and it does get boring/frustrating that many take zero time to search the manual or use the forum search bar, they just want instant answers with zero effort on their part, but I guess that's life now days

Agreed. People have gotten extremely lazy, I was recently told that instead of posting a screenshot of an Amazon product, a link would have been more useful. How 'effin lazy are you when you can't search for yourself????

Why do older posters vanish? My doc used to say "We're of that age" to explain the decline that we old duffers complain about. (Well, I have outlived him, knock on wood.) However, having been on the forum for a few years, I think that the hundredth "eval of my Mav after three months" article does make one weary. Also, the refusal to use the SEARCH mode makes vintage readers roll their eyes. On the other hand, genuine topics like catch cans, DIY mods, longevity testimonials, and "deals" make hanging in with the forum worthwhile. Unless you take it too much to heart, that is! Having lost sleep over the direct injection/ intake carbon issue, AND hearing about the employee pricing..... you guessed it. Swapped the beloved '23 for a new 2026. I guess my bottom line is: if you follow the forum, be careful what you wish for.

I know some get bored with the forum, or join and participate for a few weeks and never come back. The ones I mentioned were active, very active, and just stopped being seen. 1 in particular seemed to comment hourly on threads and just NADA in the middle of the day.

Sometimes people get bored with forums.
Or (seemingly new everyday):

  • Which oil is best
  • When to change my oil
  • What is this hanging thing under my Hybrid's fuel door
  • I locked my keys in the truck because I leave my keys in the truck
  • I want a 6" lift
  • Ford is stupid and builds POSs (after the CVs fail due to the 6" lift)
  • Which is the best bed cover available (for $69)
  • My truck review after 374 miles of ownership

Threads.......
