Yes, I paid MSRP. It was the only one in my state, possible the only one in New England, so there wasn't a whole lot of leverage on my side ;)
You were lucky. Good for you! In the Portland area anything on a lot when I ordered mine had a $7500-10,000 premium tacked on. I ordered mine through Northside Ford in Portland and will probably wait longer for it than usual because of dealer allocation (not sure how that works) because they are an industrial/fleet dealership. Service was no-nonsense and excellent and they didn't ask for a deposit ($500-$2000 nonrefundable everywhere else). That may be another reason people wait if they can.

With the Mav, MSRP is good! Somee have said they got below MSRP but that is not the norm. Granger and Chapman Ford did offer below but had long wait times. When I ordered my Mav many local dealers had mark ups on the price.
A certain dealer in southern Tennessee had a $5,000 mark up, and seemed proud of it.

I waited 16 months for mine, 22 to 23 roll over, XLT hybrid. Did you pay MSRP and when did you buy it? Congrats, I really like my Mav except for the software recalls :)
Our total wait time for a maverick was about two weeks. Never put an order in, got a '22 hybrid XLT in area 51 at sticker price. Our dealership went above and beyond to take care of us. They're also very exceptional when it comes to servicing needs.

Highly recommend the Larry. H Miller series of dealerships to anyone living in Utah or neighboring states. They're hands down the best chain of dealerships I've ever had the pleasure of conducting business with.

Congrats on your good timing. I did not order one, but was lucky enough to find the one I would have ordered. It was in transit to a local dealer. I was not as lucky on the MSRP. I paid $2500 over. Considered that a win, the dealer wanted 5k.

I say MSRP, and it's a Hybrid, but I paid the doc fee, and I bought the frame protection package as well, since one of the things keeping my Silverado from getting a Maine Insp Sticker is frame rot.
Maine salt is NOT kind to vehicles.
Sand is the worst culprit as it sand blasts your vehicle anything over 30 mph. Plus it has 20% salt in it to rot where the sand cakes in all the crevices.

Like others have said, there's nothing unfair about your good fortune in getting the truck you like so quickly. Sounds like you were just in the right place at the right time. When I ordered my truck back in October 2023 the local dealer estimated up to a 6 month delivery time, and put me on their wait list in case a comparable truck became available sooner. They called me a couple months later to say they had a '23 MY coming in but it had the lux package and some other stuff I didn't want. I'm sure they sold it to the next person on their list. My truck came in a couple months later and I'm glad I waited to get exactly what I wanted. My dealer doesn't do mark-ups or sneak in any dealer options the customer didn't ask for.

Maybe a dealer money maker, but not the dealer I bought the truck from. He said I can have it done at any Ford dealership.
Also, a friend who's been in the used truck business, albeit almost entirely Chevrolet, said that he was very impressed with their frame protection. He does Thin Film, and thinks for a new vehicle, the Ford product is the way to go.

I continue to be very happy with my XLT Hybrid...and after speaking with several other owners in various parking lots at Lowe's etc, I feel VERY lucky to have gotten this truck. I basically started looking seriously on a Thursday, was contacted by a deal Friday right after lunch saying they had one come in that a customer didn't want, and we drove down and picked it up Saturday.

I have no idea how the "waiting list" works, but I know that mine was the ONLY one I could find in the state of Maine on that Friday. So it just seems weird that there are people I've spoken to that have been waiting for a year to get their Hybrid Maverick, and here I am buying one in basically 48hrs.
It seems like this vehicle should have been offered to customers that were on the list and had been waiting a long time for their vehicle.

Is that just too complex for Ford and the dealership to handle? Shouldn't they have called someone on the list and offered the truck to them? Do they just figure that in the long run, they're already frustrated and it's not going to really m

It's a head scratcher for me...
the complication is that of x vehicles waiting to be made with various color options and features - in what order would the dealer contact those persons? The available vehicle isn't going to necessarily be the right fit for those orderers and deciding who to contact first and explaining it and waiting for an answer or a counteroffer is time consuming. Not to mention this then starts a cascading situation where if someone is a match and they buy it then their order is just sort of out there in some disposition be it in 'wait' or 'scheduled' or 'in production' so that vehicle will likely eventually be an orphan and the o will need to repeat this offering - it just gets too complicated Here in MI, my dealer has 14 hybrids readily available, at MSRP, and at least 6 of them are pure base ready to be purchased so availability is location dependent.

Ford, and a few other OEMs, still haven't figured out the transition from a dealer-centric ordering system to a customer-centric system. And I'm dubious they ever will.

A pig with lipstick will forever remain a pig. Ford sells cars to dealers, has always sold cars to dealers, and forever will sell cars to dealers (by law). We are not Ford's customers. Ford's dealerships are Ford's customers. We are the dealership's customers.

My experience was similar to yours but in October 2021. During my first search, I spotted the Maverick EB on the dealer website on a Thursday morning, called to confirm it was there and available, then drove up to Ayer, MA to see it.

The ordering customer had refused it the day before because the wife decided she didn't like Velocity Blue. I drove it home on Friday, the next day. No games, no add-ons, and calls coming into the dealership while we were doing the purchase paperwork at MSRP. The original customer had placed a new order for a different color, so I was probably driving his original order for a year before he got his replacement truck.
