So has anyone turned the volume or fan dials to change gear???? Not admitting anything myself , but glad I haven't turned the wrong dial to turn the volume down.

Guilty as charged. Maybe I'm getting senile.

Over the past 100 years (well, give or take a few decades), I have driven a variety of gocarts, motorcycles, lawn mowers, cars, trucks (BIG and small), snow blowers, boats, a Slingshot, snowmobles, tractors, horses, etc, etc, etc. Stick shift, automatic, electric, cvt and no tranny at all.
You get in or get on and figure it out.
Most of the controls for my Mav and RAV are similar. The Slingshot requires that you wipe your brain and shift it into SLINGSHOT mode.
Figure it out.

I have to say that I do prefer having more room to having a stick shifter. I was initially concerned that I wouldn't be able to shift into the right gear without looking but I HAVE gotten used to it enough that I can do that now.

Plus, it's easier for your girlfriend to slide over and sit on your lap.

I agree with OP, I wish it had detents or a positive stop but otherwise it's completely fine.

One of our other vehicles (my retirement toy) is a 6 sp manual civic si.....going from that to the dial is brutal. I much prefer the shifter in our 23 bronco to the dial. I'm old......get off my lawn

The Maverick dial is better than my wife's last car. It had buttons and the drive button was near the parking brake button. I don't know how many times I backed out of the driveway and then put the parking brake on.

Her current car is a little better, but I have put her car in neutral a few times while driving. It has a gear selector stalk on the right side of the wheel. Pulling back on the stalk puts the car in neutral. The exact same action as activating the windshield washer on most other cars.

I get in my 2004 Escape and look for the dial. Then find the gear shift. I pull it in reverse and then stare at the radio wondering why my back up camera isn’t working.

I get in the Mav the next day and paw around the steering column looking for the gear shift lever.

I do like my shit ton of knobs buttons and dials on my 2004. :’P

I hated bench seats, unless they were a split bench.
If your wife is 5'4 and she's driving her car and you're a passenger your knees are up to your chest.

If you liked the buttons and knobs on your 24 Maverick my 2013 volt had a lot. I loved it.

I’ve said this before but I would love the shifter if Ford put the Auto Stop Start cancellation button in place of the L on the top.

Just wait until you accidentally bump it while reaching for something on the console and unknowingly put in neutral like I did.

This scared the crap out of me in traffic a few times. Someones water bottle bumped it out of drive.

Autostop needs to be able to be permanently disabled in the menu options. Having to use Forscan is ridiculous
