It doesn't look practical, and may indeed be impossible (like you stated). Apparently you buy and get Mexican plates and registration, and apply for a Temporary Use Permit. The vehicle can only stay in the US for one year or less. However, there are limitations on qualifying for the waivers...

It would be subject to import duties or tariffs. Unless they built a factory in the US.

These may be dumb questions, but do you put it on the front edge of your hood, or the entire hood? Did you apply it on the painted area below the headlights?
