So at 6100 miles I ran over a nail and I got out, removed the jack assembly and attempted to loosen the lug nuts. As I neared the critical force necessary to break them free the handle started to bend and distort. I lowered the spare and called AAA to come remove my wheel. The AAA guy quickly removed the lug nuts and off I went to the dealership only to learn the tire was not repairable because of the location of the puncture. So now I have a new tire. I tried the jack handle again just to see if perhaps the lug nuts had previously been tightened too much. No luck. That P.O.S handle is useless as a remover of the lug nuts. I now carry a lug wrench with me for future incidents. For Mav owners out there, try the jack handle on your lug nuts before a flat occurs and be prepared as you motor along. Ford should be ashamed of the metal quality of that jack handle.

I have always kept a four-way tire iron in my vehicle. Recently, I got one of these with a Milwaukee socket set. We ended up needing it when our scout trailer blew a tire. It made a huge difference compared to just using a tire iron. I keep it under the back seat with a battery.

This is the way! Although admittedly I don’t always keep with me in town it is ALWAYS on me for road trips.

And a tire inflator. Job becomes so much easier when you have both of those.

I'm fan of my well used four-way lug wrench and homemade breaker bar. I keep behind the rear seat.
When I took possession of my Maverick I loosened and retightened all of the lug nuts. I wanted to be sure, in an emergency I could remove them.

I've never had a problem using a four-way lug wrench.
If it gets stuck, you can wiggle it with both hands in order to release it.
And if you don't have a breaker bar, you can use both sides of the 4way lug wrench by pulling and pushing. If you are careful and can get it in the correct position, you can use your foot while you're pulling.
It stores nicely behind the seat.
Using it won't void your warranty. 😆

Vehicles have rarely included the tools necessary to effectively change a flat.
This is the jack from my grandfathers model T. Severe injury or death is a likely outcome from attempted use.

Considering how over-tight the oil filter is on - I was not surprised to see on my first tire rotation it seemed all the lug nuts were over torqued (I know torque wrench not designed to read correctly on removal), except the tire I'd replaced twice. Included lug wrench worked then.

There was a good thread discussion on torque values when interfaces are lightly oiled.
Not recommended, but that's what I torqued them back to.

These stay in the vehicle.

The Ryobi compressor is enough to top off tires with. It requires holding the power switch down since it's meant for small things.

A trip longer than one day adds a bigger compressor & an impact wrench.

Yep....4-way tire iron went in the truck the first weekend I got it home. Jack works pretty smooth for what it is. Truck lifts really easy as light as it is.

lol.... now I'm curious.... If Ford failed to include a tool capable of the torque spec Ford sets, that is sad, funny, & annoying, all at once. I'm gonna try mine at my next tire rotation, just to see.... If it fails, I will UPS it to Farley's office..... 🤠

150 ft-lbs seems like a lot for this size truck. Same as my F150.

Granted, there is one less lug, but my other car’s wheels suffer much higher stress at 90 ft-lbs of torque with 5 lugs.

Not going to argue with the factory though.

I don't care what kind of car/truck you drive, the factory jack and lug wrench are garbage. One of the first things I did when I bought my new 2024 XLT was put a 4-way lug wrench behind the back seat, and a small 2-ton hydraulic trolley jack in the bed box....

I actually liked the dual scissor jack that came with 80s and 90s chrysler, and the folding wrench that came with it... it's 3/4" though. Jack is sturdiest jack I've seen in domestics the last 3 decades. IDK if mercedes might have a better one.

I've never had a problem using a four-way lug wrench.
I have. Someone torqued on lugnut on my '72 Eldorado to death before I bought it. I even set my now son in law on it, nearly 300lb in football shape.

We stopped when the flex in the breaker bar became visible!

[eventually, I applied rust remover wd-40. 48 hours later, it was just another tough nut ]

my father's jack when I was growing up looked something like that.

One morning at donuts, one of the guys in the club came in in disbelief, holding the manual for his '49 Cadillac.

The jack had about a 3" base. The instructions were to attach it to the rim! At which point, you'd use a jack stand.

And bad as that might be on its own, consider how few roads were paved instead of gravel in 1949. And this was a Cadillac!

I don't care what kind of car/truck you drive, the factory jack and lug wrench are garbage.
I had my 2002 E-150 about halfway up on the jack that came with it, threw in the towel, and went and bought a craftsman SUV jack. (which would later be in the van when it was stolen, and removed before it was recovered) .
