Flat towing the Maverick?

When deciding between Blue Ox and Roadmaster baseplates take a look at the pics below. The first pic is the factory install of a BlueOx baseplate, the next two pics are of the Roadmaster factory install baseplate. The last pic is for those who think wider baseplate is better is of af a factory install of a Blue Ox baseplate on a 2021 Ford Escape hybrid, which has narrower connection points than the Roadmaster setup on a Maverick . Yes you can use a Blue Ox tow bar on a Roadmaster baseplate with a simple adapter.

I'm a fan of the Roadmaster base plate setup because it is less noticeable than the Blue Ox.

I finally got my hybrid lariat lux yesterday, so now its time to order a baseplate. However, it seems like I heard that the Roadmaster baseplate won't work with adaptive cruise control. Is that correct?

confirmed that Adaptive Cruise Control is not an issue with the Roadmaster baseplate. They have removed that restriction on their website. They just hadn’t seen a Maverick equipped with ACC so they put the restrictions on it for safety sake. They have now and have seen that the ACC is about 10” from the baseplate at its closest point.

Great news, Just got the email from Roadmaster that my baseplate has shipped and will be on my doorstep Friday. Guess what I will be doing Saturday. To speed things up I will tear the front end off the Maverick Friday. Let’s go RVing

I think they will be removed. I have contacted Roadmaster this evening to verify with them. If so I will brainstorm a little to see if I can save the upper shutters. I don’t believe the bottom will be salvageable. I will know more Friday and Saturday.

I am considering doing my own install but want to check with my local truck accessory shop to see if they would do it and price before I decide. I don't know anything about the active shutters. In my mind, I was thinking about the possibility of keeping them and just notching out the area that is in the way.

Bad news, not unexpected though, Got this from Roadmaster.

After reading the instructions I don't see anywhere that those would be reinstalled at any step. I also confirmed this with others that they do not get reinstalled.

Vongreg, I think Maverick needs the shutters and agree that we should modify and do what we can to save as much of the system as possible. I wonder if those that already added the base plates have any input.

I may start the tear down this weekend. My baseplate won’t reach me till Monday afternoon. It was delayed. I’m not too worried about the shutters however I want to save as much as I can. I don’t think the Mavericks that were the prototypes for Roadmaster have any issues. They may chime in.

I just received two boxes from roadmaster, no notice of any back order. I would be great to see and know any tips or issues you run into on the install. I may be over thinking the active shutters issue. Good luck have fun!

Sure will, did a little research on active shutters, no issues what so ever by removing them across all models
