I am trying to get lariat headlights working on my XLT. Can’t get the top LED to light up. I already wired it up, but no luck!
Dang how much were those?

Not cheap haha. One of the “ford oem” parts sites. About $1100 each… I want them that bad. I have changed in the bcm (rough names, bear with me):

Left and right low beam usage: changed from low beam and DRL to low beam only. Changed “use low beam with DRL” to “disable”, also tried every setting under left and right DRL usage from “not used” and no luck! I already separated the DRL wire from the low beam splice where it is from the factory and pinned it properly into the connector. I’ve read on here some people got it to work through forscan but they either don’t remember what they changed or never responded to my question. A company at one point claimed to make a plug and play harness has also left my requests unanswered. I have hope for the latter as I believe this business of theirs is a hobby, not their 9-5 so I hope they have time to respond soon!

Quick aside: There is a lot of confusion on what a DRL is. A DRL is "daytime running light." It doesn't have to be its own light (think lariat), a DRL can be a signal, a low beam, a high beam at 50% (like some vehicles, but I hate that - so blinding haha). In Canada, we do not have the DRL menu in the dash, and our DRLS happen to be the lowbeam and signal lamps at 50%. Forscan/Ford refers to DRL both ways, an actual light, and something being used as a DRL. We don’t have lariats, so no need to change anything actual light related.

Outcome: Turn signals to be at 100% brightness for DRL.

My Vehicle: 22 XLT Hybrid Mav, Canadian Spec, latest software from dealer as of Feb 2024 as it has so many darn recalls, I feel like a letter comes a month.

I made a new thread because the old thread is 2 years old and it is derailed by arguing about LED lifespan and warranty. Thanks to everyone in that thread that contributed, I went through everyone's posts over the past year and decided tonight I was finally going to crack it. I spent hours going back and forth on settings.

If you want to do this in your garage, the ambient light sensor is the black nub on your dashboard. I used a flashlight to force it into day mode, and then covered with my hands for 10-20 seconds (depends on what you have your mav set to) to make it go to night mode. You can test your results without having to go in and out of your garage or test at nightime etc.

Forscan:

I had a lot of weird anomolies with my truck, causing it do weird things, so go through every setting carefully. What I found to cause mine not to work was the high beam said not used for one side, and "power supply" for the right side? This was really weird. I also had all my "DRL by autolamps" disabled as well.

Below are my settings to get this to finally work, and I checked after a bunch of cycles:

To get signals to be 100% brightness you have to change Left Front Turn Lamp Usage and Right Front Turn Lamp Usage. - Turn and DRL

This absolutely works and is EXACTLY the way I wanted the DRL's on my 22 XLT FX4 to work. I personally can't stand vehicles that use the low beam for the DRL. One setting I did differently is I disabled the DRL with parking lamps. I ONLY wanted the amber front turn signal to be the DRL and after that setting change it is what I have. THANK YOU for messing with it long enough to figure out the right combination of settings. I knew there had to be a way to program it to do what I wanted, I just hadn't messed with it long enough to figure it out. Again, thank you for figuring it out and posting it!!

Makes sense about the DRL by autolamp, US vehicle - we do not have that enabled or the in dash setting to turn on/off DRL (I have it coded now, however)

Using low beam with DRL is under the DRL section, check op.

Yes, I am not sure why the left and right high beams are weird in forscan - but this was the trick I found to get this to work, perhaps the vehicle needs something to high beams to allow each function to work? But after trying everything, this was the aha moment and I couldn't believe it worked. I will test auto highbeams tonight as I am going out for dinner.

You sure you dont want to try full beans to the signals? makes your white brighter too!
Yes! Changing the high beams to 'High Beams' did the trick. It was driving me nuts that I couldn't get the DRLs off when in drive.
Thanks for sussing that out!

Thanks OP, just did this.

Does auto high beam still work at night?

Anyone know how to turn off the taillight DRL (on in position mode at all times)?

The method in this thread killed my DRL. There is an option for high beam and DRL, so I am going to give that a shot.

It also did not have the desired effect for me. When the DRL's are on for park/DRL, it turns on the orange lights of my switchbacks. I want it to turn on the white lights and use the orange for blinker only. I am not sure that will be an option though...

Let us know if you get it to work that way, and how! That's the ideal but not sure how to tell the BCM to run "low amp white mode" and only switch to full amperage for blinks

TRY THIS
(EZ) Change "Left Front Turn Lamp Usage" to "Turn ONLY"
(EZ) Change "Right Front Turn Lamp Usage" to "Turn ONLY"

IF YOU HAVE THE SWITCHBACK LEDS, YOU DO NOT WANT TO SET IT TO TURN AND DRL because the white switch back light works on low voltage and the orange lights works at full voltage.

YOU INSTEAD WANT TURN ONLY
