2024 XLT Hybrid. Issue started before ANY mods were done and the only electrical thing I did was to add Qi charging from a post on this forum.

I've had this issue enough that I know I'm not crazy. From the day I bought the truck when I almost locked myself out. I don't know the cause and effect of the issue. I come home and pull into my garage. I don't lock the doors. Sometimes I do some work in the garage and I hear relays clicking and chattering but I have no idea what's happening. Is that because I have the fob in my pocket and I'm walking to and from the truck in the garage?

If I try to get into the truck, mostly it's unlocked and it's fine. Occasionally, the door is locked. After having this happen a few times, I am nearly certain that I did NOT accidently lock the door.

Add to this, the other day my wife and I were going out and my door was locked. Before I could use the fob to unlock my door, my wife stepped in her side. She does not carry the key to this truck. If I had accedently locked the truck, the front passenger would be locked too. Right? Next time this happens, I'll try to check the rear doors to see if they are locked or not.

Don, Welcome to The Forum and your first thread.🤝
Let's address the area that I highlighted in Orange & Red

I'll post this ahead of time. Once you go back out to your truck and examine, (you will) how easy to self lock the driver's door, while pushing it open. You're going to say, that's a bad design.

Hold off on your certainty.
This is a very common phenomenon NEW owners discover with the Ford Maverick and the Bronco Sport, because of similar door handle design. Allowing the driver to unconsciously, accidentally, mistakenly, inadvertently lock his door while pushing it open.😱
The fact that the 'passenger door was unlocked.' confirms you accidentally locked the door when you got out of the truck.😉

It happens easily. Especially now in cold weather gloves on.

Don, if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to post them.

Fair warning: your first thread (not first post, obviously) is gonna generate some chatter. :)

Thank you for the insite on my issue. Note that I did a search and clearly did not search the right criteria so I thank you for showing me. I am finding this forum to be a great place of information on all kinds of things.

The search function on the forum sucks. You get better and more results once you post a thread, then the bottom of the thread populates with all the other relevant threads.
OR
Instead of relying on the forums one word search.
You could use Google and type a whole sentence example.

This is funny because it's been so rehashed.
I still do this (accidentally push the lock button) occasionally. I just open up the back passenger door, reach forward and open the door lever.
Just remember to not push the lock button with the side of your left hand.

It's not so much the lock buttons as it is the sneaky & SILENT door lock
👉 Lever 👈 you accidentally push, while pushing the driver's door open. It is silent and gives you no indication that you just locked your door.

If you're lucky the other three doors are unlocked. 👍🏻

Welcome Don! Yes, that door lock issue is, well, always an issue and always will be. Even though many of us found out abut this a long time ago, many (and yes me also) STILL on occasion lock ourselves out (of the drivers side). I do it about twice a month, just not thinking when I push the door open. Glen Baker is correct about the search on the forum. I usually don't even bother with it, it is SO bad. Google is your friend, which in many cases will show a link back here. You will find the vast majority on the site here will be helpful and knowledgeable, more than willing to help out. Some know more than others, but that is fine, we all can contribute in some way! Have a great day!

You know. I'm looking at the illustration in post #2 of the door handle and it took me a while to figure out what you're showing me. I had it in my head that it was the electric buttons right there. Several of you even provided additional hints like posting about the "Lever" and I still wasn't getting it. Now I see it and it makes so much more sense to me.

Thank you guys for everything and I do have a mod to post eventually. I added a very long pigtail for my trailer winch to haul lawn tractors. I'm looking forward to posting that in the near future.

This is why I grab the very end of the handle so I don't accidentally bump the lock. Plus, it doesn't require a full hand, just a finger or two.

Clicks related to fob around?

Not on yours - you don't have keyless entry, right?

Your fob only sends a signal for the truck to hear when you push a button.

Unlike the keyless entry - which is sending from the fob whenever it's moving from being asleep.

The truck is listening 24/7 - the clicking relays aren't related to that.
