Dead Hybrid (round 2) Clarification

The deep sleep problem is annoying, but not the end of the world. It's the truck not working when I need it to work that is frustrating me. While I agree the dealership isn't always the best answer to problems, the last two times the truck required a tow to the dealership because it wouldn't take a charge and was completely dead. And it is frustrating me that my new truck has spent more time in the dealership than my wife's 2017 Subaru that she bought new in 2016.

I've just started getting the "deep sleep" message on mine every night, but it may be related to the never-ending chime and repeating message about my "limited park brake" fault that drones on and on while the truck is shut down. But it still starts every morning, even at -20 degrees.

Mine is in deep sleep 99% of the time even with wifi and all connectivity turned off (I know it's still going into deep sleep because the interior lights and dash do not come on). Luckily it still starts. Only time it seems ok for about a day or 2 is after driving it 20+ miles. Also the only other time it lasted a week was when I did the radio software update and had my Mav on for an hour.

Have you tried resetting your BMS? I was getting the deep sleep regularly on my Maverick. I reset the BMS on January 16th and haven't gotten deep sleep message since.

I have a clarification question I am hoping someone can help me with. My 2022 Lariat Hybrid is back in the shop for the second time with the "No Crank/No Start" problem. The first time the shop checked the harness and said that there were no problems with it but the battery was low, which caused the problem. They charged the battery, checked the charging system, and sent me on my way.
2 weeks later, after every drive, I would get the "Deep Sleep" notification as soon as I shut off the car. Then on Sunday, I went out to get in the truck and it was completely dead again. I was able to jump it to get it out of the garage and back on the tow truck to go to the dealer. Today, they called me and said that after charging the battery overnight that it tested bad and that they are replacing it with a new one. Once they get the new battery they are going to work on diagnosing the rest of the trouble codes in the system and finally after 2 previous attempts hopefully, they are going to complete the airbag recall.
My question is, in every other car I have owned when the battery is low you still get some power, but both times with this the car has been completely dead, with no lights, radio etc. Is it normal for a low battery in a hybrid to mean no power to anything?
I have had the truck since March of 2022, and it has been in the shop 6 times now for problems. I am trying to figure out if it is an issue with my dealership or if it's truly problems with my truck.

In answered to your question concerning no battery power at all. Deep sleep means computer has turned off access to 12v current before battery is pulled down to destruction level. I have no idea when but most computers require a minimum voltage so that could possibly be deep sleep entrance criteria. I would suspect since you are getting deep sleep warnings before actually entering deep sleep that possibly there has been a software change to present deep sleep "warning" at deep sleep entrance low voltage PLUS 0.1, 0.2, or more volts. In any case I would take it to dealer when message appears not when deep sleep has actually been entered. Have you checked 12v battery voltage at the battery when hybrid is in deep sleep? Just a guess but I would expect 6-9 volts. I have lariat first edition 13k miles since March 9, 2022 and have had no sleeping.

As far as I know, it is mostly isolated to the early 2022 Mavs. I guess it's punishment for being first in line to order my truck

I have a 2023 with less than 1000 miles and mine is in deep sleep and not working.

Just to add, traveled and left Hybrid alone in garage for 30 days. Got a deep sleep notification after 10 days, saying it noted it was not started so its going to sleep. Came home. Started. Was in single digits temperature. For first two 10 mile drives went back to sleep. After quick highway trip, back to normal. Away again no new sleep alerts. Will trickle charge battery when I return. My 2010 truck started right up, no alerts, no sleeping. Technology drains us all.

It's not an AGM. And also it's not useful testing a battery that isn't fully charged.

Mine was built 5/23/22, however it was shipped to a plant in Michigan for 2 months before I got it. It had 50miles on it. I’m wondering if mine was somehow used to test/fix the charging or deep sleep issue. Anyway, I drive mine daily. Have never seen the deep sleep message.

I have a related question. The manual says, somewhat paraphrased, it should be started if left unattended for 2 weeks, if I recall. Has anyone used their ford pass app to schedule a start to help eliminate the deep sleep while away for that 2 week period?

Just a note that after that section in the manual that shows how to reset the BMS, there is the following paragraph:

After battery replacement, or in some cases after charging the battery with an external charger, the battery management system requires eight hours of vehicle sleep time to relearn the battery state of charge. During this time, your vehicle must remain fully locked with the ignition switched off.​

So be sure you do this when you are done for the evening, so it can sit the full 8 hours. (And don't forget to lock the doors, even though many of us don't normally do that when we park in our garages...)

Watch BOTH videos in my post, particularly the second one. I’d bet anything many or all of you have the bad battery cable terminal at the fuse block. That connection being loose could definitely cause the behaviors you guys are seeing. Deep sleep, no start, intermittent failures.
