Looked around the net and I did not find very much of anything for the 2.5 L hybrid I just wanted to add an exhaust tip to my truck. The way they configured the tailpipe does not lend its self to just adding a slip on tip..I didnt want an exhaust system a cat back or anything to make the exhaust louder just wanted to add a nice Chrome or stainless exhaust tip to the truckā¦
So I crawled under the truck took some measurements and came up with a plan. I decided on a stainless dual outlet one I found on Amazon..
So next I decided where I wanted to cut the existing tailpipe I cut it about 2 inches back from the welded in crazy ass resonator. Measured the existing tailpipe thinking it was going to be 2 1/2 inches but it was actually more like 2 3/8 thin wall tubing which actually measured 2 1/4 inside diameter.
Went down to my buddies muffler shop asked him to bend me up a couple of 45° elbows out of some 2.5āā pipe then had him sweg the end of one of them to slip over the factory tailpipeā¦
Started mocking them up, trimming them down, temporarily tacking them together then cutting them apart some more trimming reconfiguring my new tailpipe, after several attempts with a little cut here, little trim, there, and then modifying the stainless duel tapered exhaust tip I had what I wantedā¦
I took a 2 1/2 stainless exhaust band clamp which fit too loosely had to make some shims to tighten things up a little then I cut 4 slots in the new tailpipe to aid in clamping it down.. Next I needed to build a hanger assembly for it. Again, back to good old Amazon picked up a couple of exhaust hangers rods in order to reuse the existing rubber isolator⦠First I made a new bracket to mount to the frame used one of the rear hitch to body mount bolts welded on a short hanger, then fabbed up the other one made some adjustments tacled them in place until I came up with the right support and welded it to the new exhaust pipe done deal
Taped up the tip shot some satin black paint mounted it up all done. It came out pretty well.
