Why does anyone have to prove anything? I have never owned any modern vehicle (other than classic cars) that would allow you to lock the doors when the key was inside. It's been this way for around 2 decades, when they started puting chips in ignition keys, and started using fobs for locking/unlocking of the doors. The door lock (manual, or electric) simply will not allow you to lock your keys in the car. We have gone backwards. We are forced to accept new "technology" that doesn't work properly. What was wrong with a key you had to put in the ignition, or door locks that did not depend on a computer to work the way they should?
That's interesting. I currently own three vehicles made in the past two decades that allow me to lock my keys in the vehicle if I want to, and I've never owned one that didn't allow it. None of them were designed to prevent it, so they all work the way they should. It seems to me that some people expect technology to replace common sense.

Vehicles that sense the presence of a key fob require transponder remotes that the vehicle constantly scans for. Lower-end trims of economy vehicles such as the '22-'24 XL and XLT Maverick don't have that technology and I, for one, am glad for that. They are prone to security vulnerabilities and, considering that I've never locked my keys in a car, I don't feel the need for them. The simplest system that works is best in most cases, IMO.

Also, I never said anyone had to prove anything, I simply asked if they could.

And even with that option - don't you have to get the keyless entry option for it to work?
[/QUOTE]

Nope! I got the base XL, and the fordpass works for remote start and lock/unlock from my phone. The keyless entry code thing is a dealer added option I believe now (my truck didn't have it when it arrived, only added with the dealer prep). But even without it I'd get the fordpass app working as it does.

I’ve never had either one of my ‘24 XLTs (without keypads) totally and inadvertently lock me out with the keys inside. But I have unknowingly locked the driver’s door with the bottom edge of my hand while pulling the door opening lever. Thankfully, as Master Blaster alluded, the other doors weren’t locked. Now I try being careful to avoid that.

Sooooo two nights ago I was driving north for the holidays. I parked in a lot and got out of the car to get something. The car immediately locked me out with my phone, keys, and dog inside. This has never happened before - it’s never locked itself with keys inside (or outside! I always have to manually lock it with the fob). It was freezing and I was outside for 3 hours waiting for a locksmith in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this happen? In case it matters, I have a 2023 Maverick with 30k miles. Just took it in for service a few weeks ago. Thanks for your help!
The exact thing happened to me after jumping out at a hot dog stand, told this story a few times here, 22 FX4 LUX, truck was running, phone in truck, dog in back seat enjoying the AC on high and me outside with 2 hot dogs and a soda, in panic mode trying to remember the key code that I never used in a year and a half, the only thing that saved me was rt rear window half down my dog likes the fresh air and a skinny tall Friend seen me and pulled over for dog too, he was able to get the door open while being licked by my dog.
50 miles from home changed the code on keypad and never get out of the truck without keys in hand or my phone or a widow open. BTW ford dealer said that's normal and I hit the lock lever while getting out, I didn't has happened 2x in the last year truck is 2.5 years old now.

Some of my Chrysler products, you had to physically put the key into the door lock from the outside and turn it to lock the car. Some you could push the inside lock button down and hold the outside handle out as you push the door closed, in order to achieve locking the door without a key.
That was better than wht we are stuck with now!

What make and model were those 3 vehicles? Probably something I've never owned.

And yes, I do expect tehnology to replace common sense, in some cases, because for me, it already did a couple decades ago! Like I said, I've never owned a modern vehicle that allowed me to lock the keys inside! You get used to things, like expecting a 2024 vehicle to operate the way a 2014 vehicle did. Or better. Not go backwards to some earlier time.

As someone who leaves there keys in the maverick while at work, the side keypad, is a huge help. I mainly leave them in the truck because I've set off the alarm many times while moving totes & boxes around. Just made sense and don't have to worry about it going off anymore.
Wow, you're a theft target just waiting to happen. You should maybe think about not publishing that and removing your location information, etc.

Piss-poor design. I don't think automakers do any real-world testing anymore. There is just too much "user error" out there right now. I thought they drove prototype vehicles around for months testing stuff out. Apparentlty this doesn't get done anymore. Plus, it's been happening for 3 model years now and Ford can't be bothered to redesign anything (except the crap-looking front end of the '25s!)
They should allow me to drive their cars around and find the flaws because I can always find stuff wrong with them. But, having said that, I don't think I've ever accidentally locked the door because I pull the handle and then use my knee to kick the door open.

As if every Maverick has that! Bottom line is, self-locking with keys inside should never happen. Never.
it wont lock with the key in the ignition, but will if they are in the console. That is why I have the external keypad on the door. I like to leave the keys in it when
I go to the beach play golf etc. This addon is under $200 well worth it.

Really!! Someone is going to go to that much trouble to find his car and break into it when they can go steal a Kia with a screwdriver.

You have a transponder remote for your Lariat, right? Does it allow you to lock your keyfob inside with the remote or electric locks?

The XL and XLTs don't have a transponder remote, so they will allow it.

I'm on my way to Pennsylvania right now to find that Maverick. 😆

If you lock the Lariat with the door open and use remote, leave key in then close door, it honks twice and unlocks. If you leave key in center console and use the button on door interior, I think it also honks then unlocks.

If you leave the key inside and use the exterior keypad, it locks.

If you leave one key inside and have one in pocket and use the exterior door touch lock, it honks and locks.

I, and my Hennesey Service Mgr agree that it is probably not the key randomly locking the door. My XLT will be 3 years old next month and ALWAYS clicks when I walk by it in the winter...whether I have the key in my pocket, in my hand, or inside the car. I never lock my XLT inside the garage, but frequently find it locked in the morning.
Now - the manual does mention the effect of the motion sensor in the fob.

REMOTE CONTROL LIMITATIONS
Make sure a valid remote control is within 3 ft (1 m) from the front door handles and rear of vehicle.
The system may not function if:
  • The remote control remains stationary for about a minute.

So you are on the other side of that limitation - the fob is moving in pocket & hand.
So some prep of relays for potential unlock and starting is expected. Not the same level as approaching keyless entry fob though.

But you are saying if it's in truck & you walk by you still get clicks?
Did you get extra option for Perimeter alarm (which actually isn't that anyway) that isn't working right, or dealer installed options for some things that are causing issues.

WHAT IS THE PERIMETER ALARM
The perimeter alarm is designed to detect unauthorized access to your vehicle.

I hope by now it knows you are authorized, whether trying to access or not.
Perhaps an early model that is very timid and shy and just keeps locking up when you approach.
