Yeah, all of my doors and the passenger door and the truckbed were all locked. But I get your point! Thanks.

Probably because as you pulled the handle to open the door and pushed it open from same spot you locked the door.

Many have done it after they reflected on their movements and tried to duplicate it.

Many have even reported all the doors were unlocked except the driver door they exited.
Kinda of enforcing the process that occurred.

This was user error....as stated on many previous posts on this subject. Look at the picture posted in this thread where the long door lock is circled. not the button with the lock symbol. You hit this on the way out with your hand. Also....next time...if that happens...go around to your passenger door and you can open it and unlock the truck from there. It only locks the driver door. The other three stay open. You can open the driver's side back door.... but you have to climb in and push the unlock from the back seat. Trust me.... I've done this a few times and it is NOT the truck locking itself. Hope that helps.
You also have to remember to set the option for auto-unlock when drivers door opens.
I think it's default, but could have been changed.
And have to go fast enough.

Autounlock unlocks all the doors after:
  1. The vehicle speed exceeds 12 mph (20 km/h).
  1. Your vehicle comes to a stop.
  1. You open the driver door.
Note: Autounlock operates for only 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off.

I stepped out of the car to get water from the back for my dog. Cmon. I’m not a dummy.
glad to hear. there are actually a lot of people on this forum who do intentionally leave their keys in their truck, and post about the reasons they do it. never a good enough reason IMHO, but hey, to each their own.

Thanks all. The real question is: why did it lock with my keys inside??? Forget the keypad, it never locks with the keys inside. It specifically does NOT lock with keys inside. So why did this happen?
you got a lot of replies and probably missed the video in post #36:
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...out-with-keys-inside.57617/page-3#post-973732

you bumped the manual lock button.

After all of the discussion of this problem, nobody has ever been able to show proof that this happens. Do you think you can show proof that it automatically locks without intervention and nothing in your pocket is pushing the lock button while you're working around it?
Without doubt it's occurring on my XLT. Dealer service manager agrees when he walked by my XTL with my key in his hand and the door locked on it's own as he walked by. Zero doubt. Service Mgr admitted he's seen a dozen other Maverick owners report the issue.

I've forgotten about it since I have the 10-key on the door post. The unrequesting door locking tends to occur in my XLT in colder temperatures....My dealer says they have run across this door locking issue many times....but on 2022 all XLT's came with the keypad so it's not as big a deal of getting locked out.

I know - I never set it up. I’m definitely doing that today! But as a more serious issue, why did it lock me out?
That’s the million dollar question if we knew that none of us would be locked out. Ford obviously doesn’t know or there would be a TSB.

I may have missed you stating what trim level you have. Makes it easy if it's on your profile vehicle description.

If you have Lariat with keyless entry or an option package for it, Curious why you think it knows your keys are on the inside, and not just outside the door?

If you don't have keyless entry.
If you mean key is in ignition, then it's because you hit the perfect combo of auto-lock option, auto-unlock option, and manually hitting lock button.

In which case yes it might be nice if it forced a double-confirm that you want to lock the door with truck running or keys in ignition.

I'll leave my older son in Rav4 with keys in so radio is going, to go grab the pizza. And lock the doors.
And it lets me lock the doors with key in ignition, acc mode on.
I get beeps when I open door to get out.
I don't get some failed lock attempt.

I don't see how this is any different.

I, and my Hennesey Service Mgr agree that it is probably not the key randomly locking the door. My XLT will be 3 years old next month and ALWAYS clicks when I walk by it in the winter...whether I have the key in my pocket, in my hand, or inside the car. I never lock my XLT inside the garage, but frequently find it locked in the morning.

Two choices - add a 10 keypad to the door ($150 is what Ford quotes) or order a 3rd key and hide it somewhere...3rd spare key can be in the gas tank filler door...look in the manual to see how to open the gas fuel door without the key. There is also a lockable mini-safe available for hiding/inserting in the Trailer hitch receiver.

Sooooo two nights ago I was driving north for the holidays. I parked in a lot and got out of the car to get something. The car immediately locked me out with my phone, keys, and dog inside. This has never happened before - it’s never locked itself with keys inside (or outside! I always have to manually lock it with the fob). It was freezing and I was outside for 3 hours waiting for a locksmith in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this happen? In case it matters, I have a 2023 Maverick with 30k miles. Just took it in for service a few weeks ago. Thanks for your help!
No, it didn't. Do a basic search on the forums.

So, the key can be in the Maverick, and the act of you just walking by the Maverick locks the doors?

Your truck is f'n psychic!!

Tbone....the "clicking" he is talking about is coming from the engine area....NOT the doors locking. I hear that clicking also after the truck has stopped and been sitting. Tbone....... I may be wrong...but the clicking he is hearing is probably not the locks. Just the little funky engine clicks it makes.

NO....it does not......The "Auto" lock is only if you are rolling.
Out of context, again.

That's exactly what I stated--12MPH for two seconds for auto lock.

What I was referring to in the comment of mine you quoted was auto unlock, not auto lock.

They all do that. I didn't think about him associating that click with the doors locking. That explains a few things...

Remember Julie....it IS locking when you have the key inside because you are pushing the "manual" locking button on the drivers door. Drivers door ONLY. The other 3 will be unlocked....with the key in there. People with keypads can also do this...with the truck running. I've done it on my other Ford. Locked the keys inside with it running for the dogs for a minute.

True, unless auto unlock is deactivated as it is in mine. If auto unlock is deactivated, opening the driver's door does not unlock the other doors, so if the passenger doors are locked prior to getting out, they will remain locked. I realize this complicates things, but it's best not to make assumptions.
