Snowy / icy morning. Started car with key, and when I finally went out to leave I was locked out. Thankfully I was home and could use my second key to unlock. Not good if I’m not at home.

Yeah, remote start via the app was likely made precisely for this reason. My wife has a recurring remote start set up on hers to have the vehicle warm before taking the kids to school.

Or Ford Pass on your phone.

You're all good!

Conjecture here, but a running vehicle with the keys in the ignition is a safety and security liability. A thief or spunky pre-teen could jump in that thing and go for a ride while you're still inside packing your to-go coffee.

All good points. But it shouldn't happen.
Don't think anyone has said it's a normal condition and it's not even the first time reported.
but, you are now aware of this issue and need to adapt until there's a resolution. it needs to be reported at the dealer service department and a work order generated to get Ford's attention. If you don't have intelligent access I suspect a software update is needed.

Had a similar situation once. Stopped to remove an object from the roadway. Got out and when the door closed I heard the click of the doors locking. Thankfully I remembered the keypad number so I was able to unlock the doors again. I have the app too.
I get the safety aspect, but it was kind of annoying. Not a huge issue though.

this my third Ford with the keypad but since I seldom use it I always forget the numbers :(
I always enter the numbers in my phones contact list ;)

OP did not use remote start. They started the truck with the key.

I get locked out of my Maverick at least once a week. All different situations, it really does irritate me. But, it only takes a few seconds to use the door key pad to get in.

I have on many times - hit the lock button on my vehicle when getting out of it.

I'll have to assume you did this unless it happens frequently. Good thing Ford gives you many ways to resolve user error.
