Possible Maverick Competitor: Kia Tasman ?

I suppose it's more logically a Ranger competitor, but I'm thinking Kia pricing could put it in Maverick territory.

Kia and Subaru both have been teasing trucks based on their unibody platforms but neither are hinting at a USA release anytime soon. The Kia looks more trucklike than the Santa Fe. So far it looks if anyone else brings a unibody truck here it will be Toyota first, but after they dropped the big reveal for the Land Cruiser they've said nothing.

I always thought Kia would do a Pickup Truck, based on the Sportage, as a more affordable alternative to the Tucson based Santa Cruz (similar platform to Sportage). But I guess Kia sales would probably just take away Santa Cruz sales.

Kia will be very cautious about bringing a body on frame vehicle to the U.S. Their last attempt, Borrego, was a sales flop.

I can say that I’ve been very impressed with both of my daughter’s new Kia’s. One has the Niro and one has the Sportage. Very nice and loaded with features above their respective price points. So if this Tasman is as good as their Kia’s I think it would great if Kia eventually brought this to the US. Competition breeds improvements.

Was not aware the new Kia truck is body on frame, assumed it was using an existing unibody platform. Makes me wonder if this is all new, or maybe an overseas commercial platform modified for U.S.

Kia is not cheap. That will line up with a Ranger, but most won't buy it because it will most won't buy it as it will probably be butt ugly or weird.

Is it just me? Here in the midwest I seem to be seeing fewer SantaCruz's out and about.
Possibly the initial excitement of the vehicle has waned?
