Manual Transmission. If it was offered, would you choose a Standard?

Would you have ordered with a manual transmission?

I think so many manufacturers get burned by people saying they want a manual transmission and then not coming through in numbers to actually order one. I don't think people realize how much money it costs to certify a vehicle with a different transmission for sale in the US market. Change the transmission? Now you have to pay to certify it for crash testing, probably emissions testing then your own R&D testing on top of it all. I love a good manual transmission but I'm honestly surprised any manufacturers offer them anymore.

I used to prefer manual, but that was back when autos had fewer gears, the performance hit was bigger and the MPG was worse...and I was younger and drove harder.
The first car I owned was an 84 Dodge Colt with a manual transmission. I used to drive it like it was a race car even though it was a total P.O.S. I also owned a Subaru Brat which had a manual transmission. These days it is more about getting from point A to B with the least amount of drama so automatic transmissions it is.

Modern autos are better in pretty much every way other than driver immersion. The Maverick doesn't seem to me like the type of vehicle you buy for the driving experience. It's a "no" on the 3rd pedal for me. I have a Foxbody and a really fast bike to take out when I want to bang gears, anyway.

Enthusiast markets are pretty notorious for demanding products and then failing to show up with a check when what they 'want' shows up.

I would have been all over a manual everything Maverick. Manual windows, manual locks, manual transmission. It is why the Gladiator was so attractive for the longest time. I just didn't feel like it was justified spending $38,000 (more now) on a Gladiator.

Traded in a 15 Focus ST. This is my first car that is not a manual. Wife has a Regal TourX, but that is not my daily. I miss not shifting. Made every drive more engaging. Would buy a manual every time if offered. Sadly, near impossible to get new anymore.

Is that why there's so many Gladiators all over the place where I live?

Drove standard transmission vehicles for decades, but now when i pay this kind of price for a vehicle I certainly don't want to have to shift my own gears. Getting old and getting lazy I suppose. LOL

It may help, but I don't know the numbers of the Gladiator sales. I do see a lot of Gladiators on the road up here, several have been manual.

I'm curious how many people would have gone with a good ole' fashion manual transmission if Ford offered it with the Maverick.

I love driving stick and contribute my love of cars to being taught how to drive a stick when I was young. I was curious how it worked and the more I learned the more interested I was. But now I'm in my late 20s and have to drive the same boring route every day, manual is becoming more of a chore (especially in traffic). I'd much rather have my fun car be a manual and my daily be an Auto. Luckily Ford is still putting them in Mustangs and Bronco's, but I can see that disappearing soon.

What do you think?
Too many stop lights and stop signs in my area to get a stick shift.

You are all missing the point of manual tras today....they are a millennial anti theft device!
This millennial will happily drive and break the wheels loose in any manual. The newer gens, I dunno about those guys.

Us Baby Boomers started driving with a stick and through the years have gotten tired of it. Now, we just want to take it easy and leave the shifting to the transmission.

Spook,
With all due respect…………
Speak for yourself. This boomer (73.5) wants a stick ALL times, ALL conditions. One with the vehicle.
If one could only figure out how to cross a hybrid with a stick. LOVE my 49.3mpg (so far)! That’s for ALL 3600 miles
I’ve put on her.

I am in the spook camp. While I have my frisky days and I like to slam some gears. That is just an occasional thing. My everyday driver... automatic all the way or in the case of the hybrid eCVT. :) There might be snow on the roof, but plenty fire in the fire place baby. LOL
