I haven't received the one I ordered yet but I know I am not going to be crazy over it. I will keep in mechanically sound and clean enough but I have carried enough coffins to know that it isn't worthwhile to get worked up over a scratch, dirty interior, or damn near anything regarding a material possession.

May not be a 50k luxury truck but I loaded it up so it’s got more features than my Tacoma LTD and 2009 F150 King Ranch and my company work trucks.

New Vehicle Glow Wears off Fast.

When I was a young man in the 60s, the cars/trucks I owned were important to me. The glow never wore off as long as I owned them because they were so difficult to come by. I was also proud of our drag racing only cars. I worked on our cars and loved every minute of it. I participated in several engine swaps and enjoyed the challenge. We even put a 327 V8 in a '61 Lancer—talk about putting 100 lbs of potatoes in a 50 lb sack.

I had the pleasure to own a few iconic cars in the 60s. A 1953 Chrysler Windsor Convertible I drove in high school, a '63 426 Wedge/425 HP Plymouth Sport Fury I later also raced, and a '66 427/425 HP Vette we also raced. We ended it keeping the Vette for 11 years. As I looked back, there were extenuating reasons for selling, or I would still have each of them. Man those were some great cars and the glow never wore off of any of them.

Moving into the business world, cars/trucks took on a different role. They were transportation only without cool factor and I drove so many miles that it was necessary to trade every 2-3 years. Even then there were a few vehicles I loved. A 70's Duster 340-4 speed, an '82 Dodge D50, an '89 Caravan turbo 4 (fun little van, black with red pin stripping and tan interior), an 84 S-10, an '01 Sonoma SS, and an '03 Sonoma ZRX (my favorite). The glow never wore off of any of these as long as I had them. These were in addition to my regular business tools for transportation.

Then retirement and compromise buying only the practical transportation for my wife and I. We bought an '06 Patriot, '08 PT Cruiser we drove for 11 years, '19 Dodge Grand Caravan. I'm not sure there was ever any glow on these vehicles.

Last year I had decided to buy an older compact truck. Something like a lower mileage last generation Ranger ('12 or before), Dakota ('04 or before), Lightning ('03 or before) or an 03' Sonoma ZRX. I found several ridiculously low mileage examples of small sports truck and planned to spend around $20,000 to restore. I had just about decided to buy a 2000 Dakota RT with less than 1500 miles on it for about $24,000 which would only need minor restoration like hoses, rubber, etc.

But, I in January of last year I saw a rumor about Ford's new Courier and the renderings were similar to the Bronco Sport, which I liked. So, I started reading and reading and reading. The name Maverick was finally revealed. The more that was revealed the more I liked what I read. Then the rumors about the Maverick real design and price came around in the spring of '21. The more I saw the more I liked. As I viewed the camouflaged shots and the spy shots the more the idea of a restoration slipped from my mind. After June 6 of last year and the revelation, I knew I was going to buy a Maverick. I just to had decide which one and convince my wife.

I researched and researched the Maverick, did about a hundred different builds on Ford's web site. Finally the used car business went off the charts. Over the course of a few months our '19 Dodge Grand Caravan increased in value from $16,000 to $26,000. When I told my wife I could get a new truck that seated 5, got great gas mileage, and give her a check for $5000 to $7000, she was sold. I included her in the interior choice and color and we both decided on the XL Velocity Blue. Mostly because of the dark interior. Growing up with vehicles in the 60's when black interiors became popular it was the only decision for us. She loved the Red Mavericks, but didn't want the interior that came with it.

Having ordered several vehicles over the years, I was comfortable with the process, so, I ordered on Oct. 6, and we picked it up on Nov. 10. Would have loved to have a First Edition model but didn't want to wait on the projected build dates. A big part of our decision to order an XL was also based on availability of build parts.

I have been so pleased with this truck. Is it faultless? No—certainly not. But, the faults are minor and make no difference since it is something I love and it meets our needs so very well. We've had our truck for almost 4 months. I love tinkering with it. I had installed a SiriusXM Commander Touch and the tuner module was stuck in on top of the center AC Vents with velcro. I had finally ordered a vent mount for the tuner module and yesterday afternoon I installed the vent mount on the driver's left side AC Vent and rerouted the wire to the control module near the fuse panel on the driver's right side. Yeah, I spent four hours on a 15 minute installation, but enjoyed every minute.

I have so much more planned for this little Maverick XL including Cruise, maybe adding Sync 4, leather seats, etc. Lost glow—no way! Now, if I could talk my wife out of the check she got for selling the Grand Caravan...
Theres a guy who cracked the code for factory cruise on a XL. You need the cruise buttons from an XLT, and using Forscan software you can turn it on in the trucks computer. It's that easy. Guy named Tyve Mattis on fakebook figured it out

Have bought a lot of vehicles over the years. The researching, the ordering, the waiting and finally the drive home from the dealership is where it peaks. After that, it's a few weeks of obsessively cleaning every speck of dirt and dust and looking back at it when you park. Then you get a minor scratch and spill a coffee and you just don't give a shi%$ anymore and it's just transportation.

Enjoy the wait
You are so right. First interior and exterior scratches. Now, it’s broken in.

I don’t buy nice things often. The novelty doesn’t wear thin for me for a very long time. I still smile at 42 MPG on my Prius. Bought the car specifically for gas mileage. I had let go of my cherished F150 that drank gasoline like a fat kid eats at a buffet. I have missed it for nearly 7 years. I loved my F150 every time I drove it for the 18 months and 40k miles. A part of me died when I sold it. The Maverick will be even better with the fact I can pay cash 💰 and keep almost the same MPG as my Prius gets. Top it off with being able to take a kayak to the lake, do Lowes trips without wrecking my car, and so many more Awesome things.
You and I are alike in many ways ..... I had a F150 XLT I bought new in '06. Loved that truck.
Got the wife a Fusion Hybrid in '11. Then in '17 she wanted an SUV. Got a new and VERY nice Edge Titanium which she still drives.
I was faced with 1) Keep the truck, sell the hybrid or 2) Sell the truck and keep the hybrid.
Truck had 44k on it, Hybrid 58K. Option 2 won out. Mileage and amenities ......

So I swore, if EVER a Hybrid small truck comes about, I am all over it.
Whala! And it looks soooo good in the driveway too

Mine wore off this week after the 5 1/2 hours trying to download the firmware update to only get stuck at 90 some present.

If this is the way modern vehicles are going to be and need updates all the time I will just wait for my new engine rebuilt on the Volkswagen.

I feel for you having to make the same choice. It worked out for both of us in the long run. Now I’m sure we will both have a greater appreciation for our trucks!

Definitely an acquired taste.
I've never understood that statement. I've had people tell me the same thing about other foods. "You'll just to try it a few time to acquire a taste for it!" o_O Nope, when I try something and I don't like it, I'm not eating or drinking it again to "acquire a taste for it" I already know I don't like it. I'd say to them, would you eat canned cat or dog food a few times to acquire a taste for it? No, because you know you're not going to like it! 🤣 🤣

Maybe true for you and even the majority on this forum, but clearly not everyone feels that way. Every time I drive passed a gas station and the price has increased and then get home and push the button to turn it off. I see that MPG and I feel damn giddy. I suspect that isn't going away anytime soon. So yeah, I am going to keep it clean inside and out and hell I might even pat the seats a little bit. LOL :)

Pushing 3 months and 5,000 miles. Still glowing. I am still volunteering to run to the store and drive the kids around. Even halfway up the Sound. "Sure, I'll go sweetheart! You've worked all day!"
