Have bought a lot of vehicles over the years. The researching, the ordering, the waiting and finally the drive home from the dealership is where it peaks. After that, it's a few weeks of obsessively cleaning every speck of dirt and dust and looking back at it when you park. Then you get a minor scratch and spill a coffee and you just don't give a shi%$ anymore and it's just transportation.

Enjoy the wait
3+ months in, novelty and love not even close to fading yet. Still randomly get up at night to just sit in the Mav parked in my garage. I love it and had been waiting for a small truck like this for years. Previously daily drove an 02 escape for nearly two decades. Going from that to this Maverick, like night and day it is. I still have the 02 Escape as well and continue to use it for around-the-town driving. The Escape has been a wonderful vehicle. I love the practicality and size of both.

Great you worked for your $$$$. For many people, more important things take president and the consuming glow of a material item fades.

This doesn’t apply to everyone. Can’t even show data that this applies to most people. Everyone loves what/who they want, for as long they want to, and there is nothing wrong with it.

A friend of mine suggests when you get a new vehicle home, just turn a few kids loose in the back seat with a box of markers. It cures that new vehicle anxiety right away and you can get back to business.

Your friend has been sent to the gulag, thank you for the information leading to their arrest.

Told my husband he's not allowed to smoke in my Maverick when it finally gets here, and his response: "OH, I'm GONNA smoke in it to break it in." And unlike most normal people who own dogs who LOVE car rides, my rat terrier is a puker when we have to travel. It'll be like having young children all over again, stopping every 1-1/2 to 2 hours so the pup can empty her innards. My OCD is already in overdrive and I don't even have my new ride yet. I'm going to have to hermetically seal the back seat area for my own sanity.

Not if you buy a Miata. The joy never dims. I should know. I owned three. More smiles per mile than any other car in creation. While all the drivers around you are posing for each other in their overweight, overpowered, super-macho ego trips, you'll be having actual fun.
I just mentioned this in the other thread about why didn't you buy a Maverick hybrid. Someone was saying something along the lines of "thrill of the ride" factor in the Ecoboost.

We owned a 2018 Miata GT 6MT for a couple of years. Now there is you a thrill. You cannot have more fun for less money anywhere. After a knee injury, we traded the Miata for a Porsche Macan S - and then wanted another 6-speed, so we picked up the G70. Hope someday to have another Miata in our garage, though.

Already spilled corn nuts in the center console. Ask me how long it took to clean that up.

They’re still there.
I love those things ❤ I haven't seen them around for years.

I firmly believe if you are going to buy a car you should have one you enjoy driving. Driving something for work becomes part of work. Just something to get the job done. For personal use it becomes part of your character. You don't have to obsess over it.. you should be able to enjoy it.

Have only bought one used car and never again, the joy isn't there driving it home that first day. That one moment is worth the depreciation hit

I guess I have a different expectation. I'm 66 and never ever bought a new car, let alone ordered a custom build. I was disappointed that Inhad to get the XLT to get cruise, but added the driver assist on and impulse. So I have only owned used cars. In just could not stand the massive depreciation from simply driving a new car iff of the lit. Yes- I squeak when I walk. My wife has a brand new Chavette in '84 and it was a turd.

So my 3 YR old '02 Quad cab and 3 YR old Volt were great cars. In between I bought a 3 YR old Tacoma which is a very dependable vehicle but I never warmed to it. It is hard to get into and rides like anpig with bricks in a backpack. 3 yrs old was the newest I'd ever owned.

So I ordered the Mav Nov 3rd and I am still waiting (and hipeful). I know it won't depreciate much if it all. I expect the upside down mileage and know that unlike the Volt I will have to buy gas from time to time. The Tacoma got beter OMG than the Rams, but not much (14 vs 17). I am pretty excited.

Judging by the size of the deposits left behind we must have pterodactyls flying around N.W. Florida, but there I was obsessively cleaning my Mav just like you said!

I am one of those people who will tell you not to touch the paint or glass, that's what door handles are for...I don't want your fucking fingerprints on my car. Don't slam the door, this isn't a piece of foreign shit...etc.
When my kids were little, they weren't allowed to eat in the car, and could only have water, in case of spills.
I am like this will all my vehicles. I want them always to look their best. I could never own and drive a vehicle that looked and acted like a piece of shit.
A year ago I traded my 2007 Edge with 204,000 miles on it (I bought it new) for a 2021 Edge. The 2007 looked like it just came out of the showroom, inside and out. The dealer sold it in one day.
