Most interesting thing to me that entire video was the contraption in front of the spare tire. Who would have thought of that??? Very interesting.

Another look at the crazy tire blowing bracket. The most metal part of the Maverick.
I wonder if that thing will blow out a "real" spare tire and not just a temporary donut or the infamous el-cheapo full size spare.

Cool video to see… my concern, taking all this off a new truck, to find out if your tank was drilled into or not!? Wow!! Not a fan… wouldn’t there be a light on the dash or vapor issue?? So is it bad not to have it checked? Sorry I don’t want my 400 mile mavericks entire underneath taken off/apart!

The issue with the light being on is that is only if they drill all the way through. If they drill even a little into the tank (not puncturing it) it gets replaced.
So what’s your thoughts about this being checked no matter what?… I hate to say it but I’m so anal with my truck/vehicles…have had bad work so often…. This is sensitive work!! Muffler, gas tank, etc… ugh

I hate people working on my cars so i know the feeling. But i would rather have it happen now while your warranty is still new. So if they do mess up on something it would likely be found in the warranty period. I still wouldnt be trilled about it but what can you do.

You do make a good argument… when I saw the entire exhaust, with the cooler thing on top of it, and the covers etc… ugh…

Mr.T and Forum Friends—- couple of questions on this!?…

1.) If the gas tank is found damaged (affected) by the recall (drilled into tank)…do they replace just the entire empty black plastic gas tank?
2.)I assume they just transfer the pump, sensor(s), screen/filter, straps/bolts from factory tank over to the new shell?
3.)I know this will sound fussy/Petty and wasteful… but I would prefer an entirely new factory tank/harness/straps/bolts/pump etc…??
4.)will they just leave it to be covered on remaining 3yr/36k, cover 12m/12k, or add to the 3yr/36k? I.e. (350 miles On odometer when repaired and 30 days Into factory warranty) so they give you 3yrs-30 days-36,350 miles?
5.)how long if parts are in stock or able to be sourced does it take to perform repair?
6.)If truly drilled through, wouldn’t we be getting codes/lights, bad mileage, smells, trouble filling tank etc?
7.)if the tank is light scratched/marred but not punctured do you have to fix or replace it? If you don’t is it bad or possible to fail later?

I apologize for all the questions…but want to really know and understand this situation wholeheartedly. Thanks gents/ladies in advance! Gabe

If the tank is damaged in ANY way, whether it is a small dimple created by the tip of the drill bit or an actual hole, then the tank gets replaced.

All of the major parts from the old tank gets transferred to the new tank, however, the old mounting bolts do not get reused and new ones are provided by Ford with the new tank.

Like with anything else that is replaced under the new vehicle warranty, the replacement part is only covered by the original warranty period. No extra time is given.

Awesome! Thanks for a quick and clear response…. Just making sure I know what I’m to expect and be in for. Thanks so much!

That recall was issued as I was buying mine. Took an extra 2 hours for them to pull the tank and check. I asked if it has holes when would I get it. They said they didn't have a clue. They had already checked the bolts in the back seat area.

I feel bad for the dealership who has to deal with you.

Step back a little bit - Ford has found a potential safety hazard. Do you really want fuel dripping down onto your hot exhaust? This is how fires start.

I am very OCD with my vehicles too. Always clean, taken care of, no car washes from the lot kids when I take my car in for service - but a new wiring harness? New pump? For why? They are literally brand new.

You purchased a vehicle with set warranty that starts when you take delivery. Why would they be adding to your warranty?
