Honestly, I wish I still had the ability to get under my truck and do this kind of maintenance. If I had access to a lift, sure. Breaks my heart to see chests of tools accumulated over the years not get used.

I’m almost there too. Need to pop a couple advil before getting under the Maverick to change my oil/filter etc - but I still end up aching afterwards!

I had the dealer do a cursory inspection of my hybrid's transmission to check for leaks, fluid quantity, and fluid quality when my first annual maintenance rolled around. They made sure that the levels were good and that there were no obvious signs of leaks or contamination of the fluid. Going to leave it be until the recommended maintenance interval.

It will take me 30 minutes just to jack my truck & remove the the 15 cover screws:)

Is there a trick to the refill? I hear the 4-5 quarts pour in really slow.

Including breaks - I plan on a 3 hour DIY job. I pay myself by the hour so no need for me to rush. Paid breaks too. I’m a great boss!
.

Mine took four and a half quarts. As does my 19 explorer the three times I've done it. Same for my sons 16 Chevy equinox all have taken exactly four and a half quarts on a drain and fill.

4 to 4 and a half quarts is what I’m expecting - thanks for your data point!

I plan to refill cold the exact same amount I drain cold. Not going to mess with the “overflow” hole since my truck will be on ramps & not completely level anyway.

Cleaner & easier that way for sure. Going to assume a proper fill at factory and no leaks! Less than 4 quarts draining will be a red flag and I’ll be facing a dilemma!

Hey thanks for the info, im going to try and do the fluid changed myself after my local dealership was gonna charge about 700 for the work. I have a question though are you supposed to buy new drain plugs when doing these fluid changes? Is it safe to reuse the same seals?

Perfectly fine to re-use...all mine are in their 3rd rotation... Just clean the treads, and put a dab of liquid gasket on the clean threads. Don't over-torque.

No, you definitely don't need to buy a new drain plug. You can safely reuse the factory plug.

Just clean the factory plug, inspect the rubber seal, torque it back to spec, and you are good to go. Save that $700!

The dealer wanted $700 just to change the transmission fluid? Or did that include the rdu and ptu?

Rdu and ptu as well
Wow $700 seems like a lot. Was that for just drain and fill on all three (transmission, ptu, rdu) or for flushes? I have a AWD Hybrid so may have to tackle these fluid changes myself.

Or you could spend ~$100 for the fluid (Rock Auto) and a couple hours of your time, and do it right. 🤠
Assuming OP owns his own house. If he's one of the ~45% of Americans that lives in an apartment or condo, you're not allowed to do your own work.

Part of the reason I bought one....

I contacted 3 local Ford dealers for prices on oil change, trans and RDU & PTU service.
All 3 said that they do a trans flush, not drain & fill, and wanted $400, $349, and $290 respectively.
One dealer said $669 for the PTU and RDU service. One said there is no scheduled maint
Oil changes are typical with full synthetic ranging from $90 - $120.

I always thought that a trans flush is not a good idea. Dealer said that it's ok unless you have 100K and it's the first service. Your thoughts ?

They'll tell you to do a flush because that's plug and play for them. Very little labor. Always follow the money.

$700 for the RDU/PTU for what is less than 30 minutes of labor and $60 in fluid is highway robbery.
