For those that complain about the dial shifter... I present to you the 2024 GMC Terrain- What a nightmare design.

I remember hearing a song by choir. One of the lines was " be grateful. There's someone out there that is worse off than you".
I think it applies here😂

The early sixties had push button transmissions . . . key word . . . 'had'.

Some things should not come back.
My parent's 1963 Dodge had push buttons. But even then they were all push buttons (and a lever for park. ) . This seems to be a combination of push IN and push DOWN

I've gotten used to the dial--even the way it automatically shifts to Park, if I forget then turn the truck off...
What I really miss about a shift lever is having a place to hang a trash bag. I have to hook it on a corner of the glove box lid. That works, but i'd still prefer just to hang it on the shifter.
I too have gotten used to the dial, won't say hate it but really dislike it, I really like my Maverick, but for the last 30/40 years have drove vehicles with a shifter always had a place to hang my hand, I find myself not knowing what to do with it now.
I can also say I will be looking at the new Toyota when it comes out. Am told Toyota dealers have a habit of marking UP I hope that's not the case. Why does Ranger get a shifter, my new Lariat cost almost as much as a Ranger...

Two hands on the steering wheel is good practice.

Wow.
What happened when you REALLY needed to honk the Edsel's horn...
I'm thinking the possibility of testing the transmission park pawl strength at speed was a distinct possibility.
In the Maverick, the car won't let you pop into park or reverse, but did the Edsel?

The Mav's shift mechanism was really strange at first, but it's growing on me, but not like a fungus, as I am coming around to liking it.

For my wife, she doesn't like it much. That's okay, she can drive the Accord.

You press the ring to honk the horn, not the hub where the buttons are. In the olden days, people were capable of learning such simple things.

True, but in an urgent situation, the appropriate actions may not always happen, especially when you start driving a new vehicle with "advanced" features like an Edsel....
It takes some time to develop the muscle memory. Take the Maverick shifter for instance.

Horn activation, after the advent of steering wheel air bags, caused relocation of that after a number of broken wrists. Hitting the horn just prior to impact seemed to happen on more than one occasion...

Well, they eventually located it right back. I haven't owned a vehicle that activated the horn any other way than mashing the airbag module in 30 years.

I've owned pre-airbag cars that had a center horn button.
The more recent ones seem to activate the horn by pressing one side or the other rather than the center.

My first dial shifter. I thought i might hate it but don't. I've come to realize that it's a great space saver for a compactish truck.

Then you might be shocked to know that pushing the center of the airbag in your Maverick activates the horn.
