Phone was sitting in the cubby, hit a rough patch of pavement and that was enough to shake it loose. Onto the dial it went and I went from coasting into a traffic circle to "why am I not accelerating right now?"

Same thing happened a couple of times to me. One time was in the middle of an intersection.

I may just be clumsy, but does anyone else have issues which accidentally bumping the shifter dial and it going into neutral while driving. I have done this several times when reaching for a drink or something out of the console in front of the shifter. I like the dial shifter but think it should have some kind of catch for each position. Creates the potential for an accident.
Had a similar thing happen when I meant to go to reverse, but managed to get it to park when it was rolling at a slow speed. It didn't like it one bit. Threw error codes, gave me a grinding noise, etc. All was fine later, but i have some worry in the back of my mind.

Has only happened to me once so far- had a brief moment of terror because I thought I was about to live the horror story of truck dying on the interstate that I've read about on the forums.

Way more common is I accidently turn the dial too far and slam it unto park when I'm trying to reverse.

Overall don't like the dial much, but don't hate it as much as I thought I would.
The same thing happened to me too.....and only once. I thought I lost power and was going to be stranded. Shut the truck off and restarted and everything was OK. Then I realized what I did while reaching for something.

I have once while setting my coffee cup back in the console. I agree it does increase a potential for an accident. IMO, a simple fix would be to have it be able push down flush with the console and then pop back up when pushed down again when needed. It's not mechanical, just an electric dial/switch.

Have had zero issues with the dial shifter.

Similar issue when doing a 3-point reversal--often overshoot R and go into P, which of course stops the truck with a thunk.

What timing.

I did this for the first time in 2 years on the 4th of July.

Was on the freeway.
Was really hot like 114°F.
I grabbed something from the center and put it back and noticed truck slowing.

No power. Foot to the floor, no power.
No warning lights. But first drive over 100° and 114° at that, and after reading all the horror stories on this site, I immediately believed something shut down from the heat.

In somewhat of an adrenaline rush I put on my 4 way flashers, now doing 40 in a 70 zone, and coasted down the (luckily) near off-ramp. Still no warning messages. But Air Conditioning was still working. What the HECK IS going on???

Coasted to the red light at the bottom of the ramp and made a slow right turn against the red because I did not want to stall at a light at the bottom of a ramp and block traffic so "coasted" at like 12 mph through the right turn and stopped on the shoulder of the side street.

Went to put it in park and truck was in neutral. I felt so stupid. But was relieved to not be stranded in 114°F heat.

The dial FOR SURE should have come with "lift to spin" or something.

@Ford Motor Company design flaw here.

Besides aesthetics what does this do to solve the "problem"?
Not a real fix but the rubber tends to “grip” whatever rubs against it. Personally I don’t have a lot of problems bumping it. Mainly like the look.

But it took me a while to not reach for the heater dial to change gear.
I managed to survive my entire last monthly trip to my parents without a single shift to "windshield wiper" !
