I'll confess ... driving cross-country last summer my iphone charging cable got wrapped around the Maverick gear shift knob. Got a phone call and picked up phone and phone cable pulled my gear shifter from Drive into Park doing 70 mph....Would have thought it would have destroyed something....but the Maverick simply went into Neutral....no damage done. But would not recommend this experiment.
I had the exact same thing happen to me....twice. I've got the short "stock" Iphone cord and I did the same accidental wrap and turn on the dial. Freaked me out the first time....second time I was prepared....LOL. I talked about it in another recent post.

I can't remember the last time I had a phone conversation in a car without hands-free. I suppose it was prior to 2012. I do still see plenty of morons futzing with their phone as they drive though, for some reason.

Took awhile to get used to the shifter on my Lincoln MKZ. Got used to it just like the dial shifter on my Maverick. Both free up space in the center console.

That I would like.

My legs are so long that I have to have the wheel at top position, and then I can't see the PRNDL on the dash. Plus I confuse right and left sometimes. I have to think of playing piano or turning at an intersection to keep it straight which is which!
This is my problem also.

Yes...I agree....BUT...remember, there are other situations on WHY the phone is plugged in....therefore the chance for a cord to hit the dial. I plug my phone in to charge it...but talk hands free. I pick my phone up to look something up or reply to a text when I am stopped. When my daughter rides with me, she will pick up MY phone to enter something.....OR.....she is plugged into the USB to charge her phone while she is in the passenger seat. Point being....there is STILL a cord there to accidently get wrapped around the dial shifter on accident....as evidenced by the few posts on this site where it has happened.:shock::shock::shock:

Reminds me of the push button shifters from the 50,s, 60,s.

It can't happen with my setup. There's more than one way to mount a phone and route a cord.

Ford Maverick For those that complain about the dial shifter... 20251205_084858

Ford Edsel steering wheel with transmission gear selector in the center hub and a chrome half circle horn "button". Take a look at the wild speedometer.

I am strongly against driving-related controls being anywhere near the infotainment/radio area of the dash. They should not overlap. Already bugs me the hazard lights button is dead-center of the dash below the screen. But the center console should be where the shifter, traction control, drive mode, parking brake, etc should go. Not near where you'd change the volume.

Even though I was born in '56 and a child of the '60s, I had never heard of pushbutton transmissions until I read a mention in a novel! The author was British, so I thought he made it up.
