To me it seems just…wrong…to have the luxury of changing oil every 10k miles. But that’s what the manual says. I did go with full synthetic. I figure with such an infrequent interval, who cares if it’s expensive.

I also rotated the tires for first time. I used to do it every 5k. But some mechanics and websites say UP TO 10K as well. So it makes sense to do it at same time as oil change.

Loving this Maverick!

10,000 miles is fairly common these days. I know I owned a Toyota 10 years ago that had the same interval.

You're probably going to get some hate (it's already started) about this interval, but ignore it. Anecdotal crap is meaningless. I ran 13,000 mile intervals, as was the recommendation from Benz, on a 4-cylinder Mercedes in from 2005-2012 covering 150,000 miles. I had the oil analyzed every other change, the last time being in the 140k range. Every single analysis came back that I could go longer on the oil if I wanted. If I'd listened to the doomsayers on the internet back then I'd have changed the oil 2x as often for absolutely no reason.

So, enjoy your long intervals as a luxury. If you have any concerns, have the oil analyzed for confirmation that you're doing no harm, but do not pay mind to the 3000-5000 oil interval internet trolls that are everywhere on car forums.

Complaining about anecdotal evidence, while providing only anecdotal evidence yourself (a sample of one) is kind of ironic.

I’m going to do my first oil change soon at around 700 miles (break in done) and then every 3000 miles / 6 months whichever comes first afterwards. When I post pics of my toasty oil I expect the trolling from the “10,000 Mile Club” to be intense:)

That is fine with me. Besides having “mechanical sympathy” for my turbo, I also have psychological sympathy for the trolls 🧌

Hey, its your truck and do as you wish! Just remember.......Ford is in business to sell vehicles and more than happy to say 10k oil changes is a good thing. Might get away with it for it for some time on a hybrid without a turbo before you start seeing problems. As far as Ford is concerned, the sooner you come in to buy another vehicle, the better !

Zero sympathy for the planet or future generations of the human race, though? 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, if you're serious about that interval, your oil will never be anything even close to "toasty." ;)

yes the manual says 10k miles we have proof of that.

We also have proof that oems are paid (in carbon credits) for putting longer oil change intervals in the manual by EPA. same goes for lifetime fluids in transmissions. all the "engineers know best" info is thrown into question then in my opinion.

So take from that what you will. It is at least NA.

Save these comments for my future frequent oil change thread? Just be prepared for my benefits of recycled oil gambit and a plea for more appreciation for the life & death of dinosaurs 🦖

Also, an important metric car companies compete on is “cost of ownership”. So called “lifetime fluids” and long oil change intervals help reduce these “cost of ownership” numbers.

I can see both schools of thought. On one hand, oil is actually just better than it used to be, full stop. 25 years ago, synthetics weren't really the standard yet. On the other hand, GDI turbo motors are still hard on oil (fuel and carbon dilution). So it really depends on your usage. 10k is perfectly fine for most people driving normally. 7500 is fine for harder use, and I'd really only do 5000 mile changes if you're either really anal or really beating on it. Ultimately, get an analysis and see where you're at, or just follow the maintenance minder and don't think about it.

I'm camp anal so I still do 5000 miles, but I'm okay with wasting a few bucks.

The interval is more important in the "ability to sleep at night factor" not so much the milage. You know how you drove those miles = maybe mandatory after 14k+ miles. I had a neighbor in 1970's who never changed oil in his car because he knew he would trade it in at 80k miles every 24-30 months. Once I saw his trade in on dealers lot with "ONE OWNER" sign on it!

With 10,000 miles on a hybrid, the gas engine's probably run 6,500 miles or less and the typical hybrid driver isn't running the truck really hard. So, this isn't a big deal especially with full synthetic in the engine now.

PS: those wheels look really good on the truck
