Well just wanted to post so you could add me to the list of totaled trucks from being rear ended.....maybe a 20MPH hit (I was at a stop)
Rear frame rail bent.....had truck all of 5 weeks - was working on mods so first post would be of my 25 Lariat EB sitting on Eibachs/ wheels/ exhaust/ tint and a bunch of cool accessories ....

So Ill just leave you with my review - decided to go back to a bigger truck again
Prior vehicle - 22 F250 PowerStroke- sold trailer so decided to go small
Other vehicle in garage - 19 Shelby GT350R

My review -

Positives -
Fun truck- cool turbo noises - handled decently for what it is .....just the perfect size truck for running to Home Depot.....I really liked the updated headlights on my 25 - the technology was great- 360 cameras exc... I mean the truck was flawless for the few weeks I owned it - I actually made room for it in the garage as the more I drove it ...the more I liked it....with the black out package - loved the black painted roof

Negatives- aluminum frame that totals out the truck way too easily.... could use a little more power for acceleration - I wish the interior was a little higher quality
Prices have crept up over the years ....

If not for the frame rail things- would highly recommend truck to anyone who wants a fun little truck that is the perfect size (this coming from an F250)

anyways- just wanted to leave my take - I might still stop in here or there to say hello - but I cant bring myself to buy another one when they get totaled out this easily .....

Well, that sucks for sure, but the frame is not aluminum. The only relevant aluminum on a Maverick is the hood, and a few suspension pieces.

No aluminum frame on the Maverick, it's too cheap. The hoods aluminum, engine block, oil pan, that kind of stuff, but no body panels or the unibody.

Ooops sorry- not aluminum - Boron Steel
sorry about that @dalola @icegradner

The body shop told me that the Bronco Sport has the same issue- and that almost every Bronco Sport or Maverick they get in ends up being total losses : (

What model or type of vehicle rear-ended your truck?
What damage was done to the other vehicle?
Would a receiver hitch bump stop have lessened damage to your truck?

This is where insurance should cover your loss.

The vehicles are delicate because humans are even more delicate. The major impact energy dissipates into the vehicle body crumpling and not straight into our squishy meatsack bodies. They are designed to sacrifice themselves before injuring the occupants. I'd rather be in a unibody Maverick than a body-on-frame Tacoma in a major rear-end collision myself.

You have my sympathies though, I had mine for about a month before a rear-end collision put it in the shop for a month.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24821629/

Background: In crashes between cars and SUVs, car occupants are more likely to be killed than if they crashed with another car. An increasing proportion of SUVs are built with unibody, rather than truck-like body-on-frame construction. Unibody SUVs are generally lighter, less stiff, and less likely to roll over than body-on-frame SUVs, but whether unibody structure affects risk of death in crashes is unknown.

Objective: To determine whether unibody SUVs differ from body-on-frame SUVs in the danger they pose to occupants of other vehicles and in the self-protection they offer to their own occupants.

Methods: Case-control study of crashes between one compact SUV and one other passenger vehicle in the US during 1995-2008, in which the SUV was model year 1996-2006. Cases were all decedents in fatal crashes, one control was selected from each non-fatal crash.

Findings: Occupants of passenger vehicles that crashed with compact unibody SUVs were at 18% lower risk of death compared to those that crashed with compact body-on-frame SUVs (adjusted odds ratio 0.82 (95% confidence interval 0.73-0.94)). Occupants of compact unibody SUVs were also at lower risk of death compared to occupants of body-on-frame SUVs (0.86 (0.72-1.02)).

Conclusions: In two-vehicle collisions involving compact SUVs, unibody structure was associated with lower risk of death both in occupants of other vehicles in the crash, and in SUVs' own occupants.

It sucks it happened to you. I hope everyone is ok

On September 30th 2024 I started keeping an informal tally about Mavericks being a cracked windshield and rear end accident magnet.

Chipped and cracked windshields

I love my truck, but I hate the OEM windshield! I drove my last truck 12 years without so much as a small ding on the windshield! This is the second chip in less than 6 months in my Maverick. The first one was a small chip directly in front of the driver's view, but it was small enough that they could fill it. I could still see it, but it wasn't all that noticeable after a while. I saw the small rock coming, but too late to do anything about it. But this second one is a doozy! It sounded like a gunshot in the cab, and I only heard one impact, but the Safelite tech said it's clearly two hits very close together. I never saw that one. Too much damage to fill this time. At least I won't have that other small chip fill spot in my sight line while driving anymore.

toyota Camry and receiver hitch bump stop wouldn’t have helped … it hit mostly the passenger side … didn’t even hit the tailgate … just bumper pushed in and just a super super light bow in rear quarter you had to really really look to see … body shop was amazed at the damage underneath though …

A receiver hitch bumper would only make things worse. The frame is made to crumple and protect the humans inside it. Those hitch bumpers only help in parallel parking bumps.

Sorry to hear that. Last year my 2005 Ranger was rear ended while I was stopped. It totaled the VW GTI that hit me a t low speed, Ranger got a new bumper. I was worried if I bought a Maverick that would happen and make it a total. Like everyone said, better the passengers are ok. So I got my 2025 XLT today.

It's not just the Maverick that gets totaled out easily. It's the way the shops work presently.

Man, sorry to hear about the Maverick 😕 Sounds like you're okay though which is good. Glad to hear you liked the truck otherwise though!

BTW, nice Stang you have there 😎🏁
