So sorry to hear that, sounds like no injuries and that is surely more important.
Believe it or not, the ease at which it got totaled may be the thing that prevented injury. The truck took the brunt of the force and crumpled instead of transmitting it to the passenger .

Well just wanted to post so you could add me to the list of totaled trucks from being rear ended.....maybe a 20MPH hit (I was at a stop)
Rear frame rail bent.....had truck all of 5 weeks - was working on mods so first post would be of my 25 Lariat EB sitting on Eibachs/ wheels/ exhaust/ tint and a bunch of cool accessories ....

So Ill just leave you with my review - decided to go back to a bigger truck again
Prior vehicle - 22 F250 PowerStroke- sold trailer so decided to go small
Other vehicle in garage - 19 Shelby GT350R

My review -

Positives -
Fun truck- cool turbo noises - handled decently for what it is .....just the perfect size truck for running to Home Depot.....I really liked the updated headlights on my 25 - the technology was great- 360 cameras exc... I mean the truck was flawless for the few weeks I owned it - I actually made room for it in the garage as the more I drove it ...the more I liked it....with the black out package - loved the black painted roof

Negatives- aluminum frame that totals out the truck way too easily.... could use a little more power for acceleration - I wish the interior was a little higher quality
Prices have crept up over the years ....

If not for the frame rail things- would highly recommend truck to anyone who wants a fun little truck that is the perfect size (this coming from an F250)

anyways- just wanted to leave my take - I might still stop in here or there to say hello - but I cant bring myself to buy another one when they get totaled out this easily .....
Just glad you are OK.

So sorry to hear about the accident, but glad you were ok!! Sorry to hear about the loss of the Maverick also. I’ve had mine almost 3mos and I can imagine owning anything else! I’ll just pray I don’t have any idiots hit me.

Sorry for your loss. Would have been worse if you had more time to "get attached" to your Mav "baby". Any after pictures, if you have them, would be great to see.

Stay Safe!

It doesn't take much for the vehicle to be a writeoff,. Anyway sounds like you escaped injury, cars are replaceable, people not.

Looked like a nice truck, sorry to hear about its destruction but glad your okay. I like your Shelby as well, I had to sell my 08 GT500 last year due to back problems and the 800+ H.P. clutch didn't get along.

Ooops sorry- not aluminum - Boron Steel
sorry about that @dalola @icegradner

The body shop told me that the Bronco Sport has the same issue- and that almost every Bronco Sport or Maverick they get in ends up being total losses : (
The reason there totaled is likely salvage value is high I will bet your vehicle is back on the road with a salvage title and someone is loving it. If a insurance company gets a high salvage bid they can total it and sell it to guys like me and fix it and sell or drive it fixed to friend's or family. My ex wife's always had new cars that were salvage cars bought at very reasonable prices and repaired nobody could tell the difference. Sorry for your loss, but your truck is not in the junkyard. It lives.

How hard could it be to design a framework that attaches to the vehicle & holds the bumper that could still crumple & be replaceable. I hope this is a design change when the Maverick gets it's major refresh in a few years.

It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. It's absorbing the energy so it's not transferred to you.

Big trucks aren't built to the same safety standards

Sorry to hear that. Last year my 2005 Ranger was rear ended while I was stopped. It totaled the VW GTI that hit me a t low speed, Ranger got a new bumper. I was worried if I bought a Maverick that would happen and make it a total. Like everyone said, better the passengers are ok. So I got my 2025 XLT today.
Same with my 2001 F-150. Totalled the RAV4 that rear-ended the F-150. F-150 needed a new rear bumper and new bumper brackets and it was back on the road. I barely felt a thing; just felt like someone forcefully slammed the tailgate shut.

How hard could it be to design a framework that attaches to the vehicle & holds the bumper that could still crumple & be replaceable. I hope this is a design change when the Maverick gets it's major refresh in a few years.
IIRC, the Maverick's rear crash bar is designed to deform and be easily-replaceable. But in a harder and/or offset impact, the bed floor and inner bed structure (not the bed tub itself) I believe is designed to buckle in order to absorb more energy. Hence partly why there are shark teeth to deflate the spare tire.

It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. It's absorbing the energy so it's not transferred to you.

Trucks over 8,500lbs GVW are exempt from a lot of stuff. They don't need bumpers, airbags, crash testing, fuel economy testing, and some other things.

Smaller vehicles don't have sheer mass or physical size and space to help protect the occupants, so the vehicles need to sacrifice themselves. Hence a 25mph rear-end impact can total a Maverick but be a literal scratch on an F-250.

I would still buy a Maverick knowing it's basically a disposable vehicle in a collision. I see it no different than any other late-model unibody vehicle. If I wanted to have a "reusable" vehicle, I'd get another F-250, but I'd take the maneuverability and fuel economy of a Maverick versus the reusability of an F-250 on the chance I get involved in a collision (knock on wood).
