You're over by what, half a quart? I wouldn't worry. On a side note, not all cars can have their filters pre filled. My daughters rouge and my wife's jeep have their oil filters sideways. No way to fill them first.

Yeah, that was what I was wondering. I have an old Nissan like that; a somewhat inverted filter. I wonder if I should somehow put a little oil in it before I install it? I have not done it so far and now I've got 290k miles on it. Gee, maybe the damage is already done? You're over by what, half a quart? I wouldn't worry. Mine has 196k miles with oil change every 5k miles since 36k and no pre fill. Pretty sure there is enough oil on the parts to handle a few seconds of no oil pressure. The reason they put lithium grease on a new motor is because it had no oil on it.Yeah, that was what I was wondering. I have an old Nissan like that; a somewhat inverted filter. You need to adapt to the times. The Maverick has flood mode. After the oil change hold the accelerator to the floor and crank the engine. It won't start, just crank, allowing the filter to fill. You can use it when your truck has set for and extended period of time too to ensure lubrication when started.I’ve been doing oil changes on vehicles since ‘75’, that’s 1975 for you pups. Always been told to add some oil to filter and gasket, not much oil, just enough for initial start up. I would LOVE for someone here to tell me that now new engines would NOT benefit from this procedure. Still willing to accept new ideas and proof.![]()
Our Subaru has the filter "upside down" in the engine bay right next to the dip stick and oil fill port. No pre-filling that one! I do appreciate how easy it is to replace. It is pre-drained for me and essentially open to the air. Just grab it and twist hard. Now if they would somehow find a way to actually let you change the oil from the engine bay (not just the filter) without a suction hose.......You're over by what, half a quart? I wouldn't worry. Looks about 3/8-1/2" taller than my 24 HP Briggs riding mower's filter. We're talking a miniscule oil filter especially on the hybrid 2.5 l

That may VOID the warranty..Does no harm. Does no help.
Either way is personal preference.
Have you never been to a Demolition Derby?
How about, ever seen a Los Angeles or South Alabama Cop chase?
Both are living proof cars can run HOURS with no oil at all!

After checking dipstick, wipe clean on a microfiber towel. Repeat & wipe. Repeat & wipe again. Repeat until microfiber towel is sopping wet. Oil level should be just about right.Hey y’all, I f***ed up
Doing my oil change on my hybrid. Pre-filled new filter to about 80% capacity (just under where the threads start) and forgot to account for this when adding oil up top. Added about 5.6 qts of new oil (by eyeing the markings on side of oil containers) and realized too late I hadn’t subtracted the amount of oil in filter. Haven’t started the truck and still on ramps, but here’s what the dip stick is showing. Wondering if I should be ok, or I should remove some. If so, how. Loosen filter to let some drain?
