Any success in adding sound dampener insulation to under the hood for noise reduction?

There's several threads on the topic but none that I see factually stating if the addition of sound insulation/padding to under the hood reduced noise or with what the dB reduction was. Anyone have any further details on whether this has helped cut down the engine noise?

My Eco is so super quiet inside and out I can’t imagine needing that.
But I swear I saw a thread in here about it.
Under sound deadening or engine noise.

I agree with Cherokee, mine is very quiet.
Not sure which trim you have so check both inside fenders by opening the front doors to see if yours has the insulation packs. There’s been numerous threads/post over years that folks purchased them from dealers to reduce noise inside cabin

I have an XL and there is a lot of road noise. I want to try the fender fill.

Oh boy! This is my favorite topic. The 2.0 Ecoboost, while overall a great engine, is one of the noisiest most awful sounding engines ever mass produced. Anyone who says otherwise is most likely a half deaf boomer ( no offense half deaf boomers ).

Here is what I did:

1. Maxzina under hood PET felt mat backed by 1/2" Dynaliner . Supplied screw and clasp hardware replaced with nylon push fastners, this was not easy as the Maverick was never intended to have hood insulation. I can provide details on the fastners if you want.

2. OEM Lincoln 2.0 Ecoboost engine cover and necessary mounting hardware.

3. OEM Bronco Sport cowl insulation pad backed by 1/2" Dynaliner. Had to drill four small holes in the wiper cowl to mount with nylon fastners.

4. Wrapped the portion of the intake tube nearest to the HPFP with high quality 1/8" closed cell foam pipe insulation with an adhesive butyl pad underneath.

5. OEM Maverick Lariat fender well insulators and "energy absorbers". I replaced the fluffy white "energy absorbers" with acoustic foam cut to the same dimensions.

I believe this will be my under hood sound deadening final form. It took sound levels at cold start from unacceptably loud and panic inducing to mildly irritating.

What I think is funny is the amount of effort and expense guys go to to make a 4 Banger sound badass.

But I will admit a cool sounding exhaust for less than $600 has got my attention.

I have excellent hearing and my Eco is quiet. Maybe the noisy ones are disintegrating. Time will tell.

Not even close. More likely the boomers have experienced much noisier engines than you have if you think the Ecoboost 2.0 is one of the noisiest. I know I have, and I'm not a boomer. There are lots of older flat-tappet pushrod designs that qualify.

We have an escape hybrid and it is very loud. I have a maverick on order and expect similar noise. So I am asking both to mitigate the noise on my escape and with the expectation that my maverick will be just as loud.

This is fantastic! What a great idea to use the Maxzina as an outline for the for dynaliner. What would you say it took your noise level down when cruising? 10% reduction? 25% reduction?

Hey, I barely qualify as millennial and my first truck was a used jeep YJ with 100,00 miles, fabric top! $1,000

That counts as fairly noisy. I have an XJ with 195K miles, and the 4.0 definitely qualifies. So does the 2.5L I4, which is basically the same engine minus two cylinders.

My opinion is that the Ecoboost 2.0 isn't exceptionally noisy, it's just noisy in the Maverick chassis. I own a 2012 Focus with a Duratec 20 that was the basis of the Ecoboost 2.0, and is virtually the same engine without the turbo. It sounds the same outside the vehicle as the Ecoboost, but is quieter from inside that chassis. Noise from direct injection is inherent due to the high pressures involved and newcomers to the technology tend to comment about it. The high frequency noise it generates needs good insulation to be reduced, and the Focus has more from the factory than the Maverick.

I would say the hood mat cut sound down 10%. The engine cover 20%. The cowl insulation 5%. The fender insulation 5%. The intake butyl and foam wrap another 5%.
All together close to a 50% reduction guesstimate. It cut the high frequency harshness of the HPFP.

I have a 22 hybrid lariat. I cannot hear the ice or the imitation fake ice running noise or the AC compressor. The lariat has the sound limiting windshield.

Maybe that explains why my Lariat is so dang quiet, even at 94 mph.

I owned a New Edge Mustang Cobra with deleted cats when I was younger. I don’t mind loud vehicles that sound good. I do mind the infernal racket of the Ecoboost HPFP.
Really all I did was add back the sound deadening Ford has removed over the past few model years. It was removed as a cost savings measure and no other reason, guaranteed.

Yeah, loud exhaust and noisy engines aren't the same thing. The Maverick could definitely use more sound deadening around the engine compartment. Especially those like mine that didn't come with the fender insulation.
