To a degree, yes but I've had plenty of $40k cars that I've never encountered this at all. NVH is something that relates to design & quality control and it seems Ford missed the mark. Once you hear and feel it its very irritating. Its a shame since this truck has many great qualities. I just wish Ford would address these NVH issu
I agree with you completely

Well...If you actually heard the noise you would probably agree that it is a ridicuously obnoxious grinding noise. Just strange that they wouldn't use a hybrid compressor(quiet) like other manufacturers use.
So yeah, I don’t have the Maverick hybrid and I haven’t heard the noise.

But I have had 3 vehicles so far with electric AC; Prius, Prius plug-in, Tesla.

They do get noisy when the AC is turned to max setting. But nothing like a grinding sound that would alarm you to think that something is broken.

If I had to guess, it’s probably the Oldham ring, which is a metal plate sliding back and forth on top of another metal plate. If the oldham ring is the source of the sound and vibration , I wonder if you could wrap the scroll end of the compressor housing with dynamat to dampen it?

Also, there is a previous MTC thread on the subject of loud AC compressor, where the dealer replaced the compressor and the new one was much quieter. Maybe some compressors didn’t quite meet quality standards and have a scroll that is making slight contact with the housing at the end of its stroke and the scroll housing is ringing like a bell being hit with a bell clapper?

I'm thinking the under hood insulation would help gas mileage. I'm getting the best mpg in the hottest weather. The ICE gets up to temp very quickly and I use just light A/C. Now that it has cooled a bit into the 80's, I notice mpg has gone down a few.

It would have to be DIY to really be a value but I'm thinking insulation to retain some heat would be a good upgrade but I could be totally wrong. Maybe it would just melt plastic parts like the intake manifold.

Better MPG in hotter temps is related to lower air density, which equates to less wind resistance. Adding underhood insulation will not effect the density of the air hitting your truck.

Gotta love rebuttals without actual advice, lol. So Professor Larry, is the insulation a good idea or not? My winter conditions can be rather cold but I do have heated seats.

This is my first Ford and first Hybrid. This engine is very noisy. 1) there's subtle vacuum sound that seems like its sucking air in/out. 2) when the engine warming up and toggles from electric to hybrid I hear and feel a grinding that feels like it comes from the transmission tunnel near the accelerator. Both are like finger nails on a chalk board.
When you add these two big items to annoyances of A/C always turning on at start (fan speed must be at least 1) and seat belt message "OK", it really grates at me.
So, if I could address at least the vacuum sound with insulation that could help. I'm having the dealer look into the grinding and the A/C issue.
Apparently the changes made to the eCVT for 2025, which in addition to adding the ability of AWD, also increases the amount of torque or power which can be generated without invoking the ICE. The tradeoff is the 2025 eCVT does exhibit a squeal or sort of grinding noise when transitioning between modes under certain conditions. It's been discussed in other forums, and apparently confirmed by Ford that they may have that sound, which doesn't affect durability. The changes also result in a cooler running eCVT for 2025, than the 22-24 model year, even with the addition of 4k Towing.

FWIW, the 22-24 models do not make that sound, and it is isolated to the 2025 eCVT.

The Atkinson exhaust note however is a bit off sounding compared to a regular Otto Cycle engine, and tends to be sort of coarse sounding, or lacking the accustomed tone. That difference in pitch or sound tends to transmit into the cabin more, sounding unrefined. (The Miller cycle actually holds the intake open longer, but utilized forced induction which alters the sound, with the only current manufacturer I'm aware of using it being Mazda in their Sky-Active line). The benefit of the Atkinson Cycle is it favors thermal efficiency over raw power production, making it perfect for enhancing a Hybrid's fuel economy.

Cyberdog thank you for the detailed explanation and glad to know I'm not the only one. I'd still love to quiet things down. Do you think the hood insulator would make much of a difference?

That seems a little high priced but easy to install. I got this from Amazon. Cut to fit and self sticking. Just as thick as OEM versions. Enough to do two under hoods and was only $40.00. Seems to quiet engine noise down just a bit and also provides a little heat rejection.

That is a great video explaining what may be the vacuum sound. With that in mind, I'd love to see more effort to contain NVH. Again, this is the noisiest car/truck I've ever owned. For context my other cars have been multiple Toyota trucks & 4Runner, Honda Element & Odyssey, Infiniti QX60, BMW X3s, BMW 525 & 540 wagons, Z3 and Genesis GV60. This is noisy and it has sloppy brake pedal feel. I continually use the Give Feedback function but it feels like I'm pounding sand. I'd love to find the Product Owner to share the feedback.

Curious, how was that noted on the work order to state the fix?
