We can take this in a happier direction and look on the bright side…what is the best cheap car you’ve ever had? Mine was hands down a 2005 Element I bought for 5500 in about 2009. Absolute tank that I wish I still had. Here’s to hoping the Mav makes my list next!

I’ve had mine for 3 months and have zero complaints. Not planning on getting rid of it for quite awhile so not concerned about future value however I expect a reliable vehicle. Not arguing that Ford reduced costs in some things but the core components are proven and solid…motor, tranny, and such.
I enjoy my Maverick and I have used the bed plenty.
Great value for what you get.

I owned a 1990 Isuzu P’up I paid $4995 out the door. Should have bought 3 and put in storage. For a cheap truck drove it through over 200K miles. My wife bought a 1997 Civic hatchback - same deal that car lasted to just under 200K before sold. Should have bought 2 of them. In 2004 purchased a Lariat F150 4x4 loaded - towed my boats, hauled derbis and yard stuff and put over 180K miles on that Triton V8. Other than the the E$%$# spark plug tubes and changes was a great care and we traded for over $10K in 2017 for our Honda Ridgeline.

We will be selling our Ridgeline for the Maverick and I have zero concerns about long term or value. I hope and belIeve this car/truck will continue the trend we have experienced. Odd thing is - the most expensive one we have owned - the Ridgeline Black - has been the least impressive. No real issues (beyond transmission flushes needed to d*mn frequently). Good luck to all - time will tell.

Buddy of mine had a 2001 Civic manual transmission he drove until last year…had 460k on the odometer. Gotta love it.

An 87 chevy celebrity. No ac, no cassette, no power anything. Only feature was rear window defrost.

Loved that car with a little 2.5L straight 4. Regularly could get 30mpg. Loved the old floor vents and the very comfortable 60/40 bench seat. Sold it with about 220k miles on it. One of my big regrets. Should've held on until the very end.

Ecosport was a stopgap offering. Maverick XL hybrid is a loss-leader for Ford; money is to be made on full-sized trucks and SUV's. The Maverick is designed to drive down their corporate MPG and attract new buyers to their portfolio.

Honestly, I had a 00 Chevy Metro Hatchback with the 1.3L 4 cylinder that was an excellent car - except I could never keep the AC charged. Other than that it was a champ!

My Hybrid XL is in the dealer right now, and I am driving an Ecosport Titanium loaner which costs $7,000 more than my Maverick. The Maverick is a 10x better vehicle than the Ecosport, in fact, I would say that the Ecosport is the worst car ever made in my opinion.

Why? It has a 3 cylinder Turbocharged engine THAT ONLY AVERAGES 23-24mpg with normal driving. You can't use the term "eco" unless the car gets at least 30 combined IMO. It is slow as hell, has a crappy transmission that is extremely laggy and takes almost a whole 2 mississippis to downshift once you floor it. It has a bad turning radius for such a tiny car, the suspension is stiff, but you feel like the car will flip while cornering, leg room is horrible (IN THE FRONT SEATS), back seats are basically unuseable, and the Titanium edition doesn't even have LED Headlights.

If the Mav didn't have all the electrical issues and Ford was able to actually produce them, it would be the #1 car in the USA/Canada probably. The only other options for 20k I would go with would be the Hyundai Sonata SE or a Toyota Corolla LE.

97 Saturn SL2. Got that thing with 43,000 miles and it kept chugging until 277K. A beast in the snow with winter tires and the plastic body panels were indestructible.

The Kia Soul doesn't deserve to be bundled in with the rest of the group to be honest. Fantastic vehicle in terms of price per performance value. They review very well and are packed with features for such a low price point.

Outside of that, I understand the concerns, but I also feel like if the Maverick was just a bad vehicle, the countless reviews would tell us as much. The Maverick has obviously reviewed very well within auto media circles and has gotten awards and such thus far. It's not perfect, and there will be some bad eggs in the bunch, but I think given the information we have available to us so far in its lifecycle it's safe to say it's not a complete turd of a vehicle.

Both drive trains are tried and true, the radio is old tech, the only thing new on it is the sheetmetal and the headlights. Those are hard to FUBAR.

I can't understand why everyone is talking crap about the Ecosport. I owned one for 3 1/2 years and I never had any problems with it. If I hadn't been wanting a truck, I would still be driving it today and not traded it in on my Maverick. Fill it with gas, change the oil every 5000 miles and go. I never experienced any lag in acceleration. I had the SE trim, 1.0L 3 cyl ecoboost engine and I loved it. I'm 6"1" 270lbs and I had plenty of room in the front. I will agree that the back seat was useless for a passenger, but It was never used for passengers anyway. I regularly got 26-28 mpg , but I tend to drive pretty "aggressively". Comparing it to a Fiesta is not fair, since the Fiesta is much smaller. I had one, and I would hit my head on the doorjamb almost every time I got in it. I got fed up with that and traded it on the bigger Ecosport and never regretted it.

It's nice to see all of you defending the Kia Soul. I've owned 2 - a 2015 ! and a 2017 Turbo - both were fantastic vehicles that I loved way more than cars I've owned costing 3-4x as much. That's not to say they were not flawed. The 2015 with the 2.0L NA engine and 6AT was both slow and did poorly on fuel. The 2017's 1.6T engine was a gem and it was both faster and more efficient than the 2015, but it's dry-clutch DCT was not as sharp by 40k miles as it had been at 20,000 miles.

Both of them had equipment unheard of in the $20k range - from power folding mirrors and heated rear seats to panoramic sunroofs. The value was strong.

I am actually hoping the Maverick hybrid fills the void the Souls left, while improving on efficiency and practicality (with the bed).
