The hybrid is rated at 2,000lbs towing. If he wants to tow 3,500lbs he needs to shed 1,500lbs of weight to stay within the GCVWR. Impossible.

Then Waterick's post #10 cleared it up.

If I understand correctly, the intent is to tow the Maverick with the Transit....

These are all estimates based on my Focus ST weight reduction (I added some weight to each as everything is bigger on the Mav)

Spare ~50lbs
12V battery ~40lbs
Passenger seat ~35lbs
Backseat ~50lbs
Tailgate ~50lbs

Right there is already 225lbs, getting you below the 3500lbs limit.

It's so close I wouldn't sweat it.
Every 5 mph you slow down is worth about 500 pounds. Just drive 5 or 10 under the speed limits and don't tear apart your truck.

Don't you also have to include the weight of the trailer? Taking items off the Maverick and putting them in the Transit is still not going to change the GCWR.
