Ford has a fix for those with the idle surge issue on their hybrids; it involves a software update to the PCM.

Technical Service Bulletin 22-2124:

Ford Maverick TSB 22-2124 -- 2.5L Hybrid idle surge fix (software update) {filename}
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
2.5L FHEV - Idle Surge/Rough Idle With High Temperature In The Catalytic Convertor And/Or Sulfur Odor In The Cab - Built On Or Before 9-Mar-2022
22-2124
30 March 2022
Model:
Ford
2022 Maverick
Built on or before 9-Mar-2022

Issue: Some 2022 Maverick vehicles equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain built on or before 9-Mar-2022 may exhibit an idle surge and/or rough idle with high temperature in the catalytic converter and/or sulfur odor in the cab. This condition occurs when the high voltage battery is being charged by the engine at cold start and the state of charge (SOC) increases to the top of the charge limit. When the SOC is at the top of the charge limit the system cuts the engine injectors until the SOC is below the top limit to protect the battery. The continuous cycle of running the engine and cutting the injectors causes an increase of oxygen and a high temperature in the catalytic converter. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the powertrain control module (PCM).
Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all the following criteria:

• 2022 Maverick
• 2.5L FHEV
• Built on or before 9-Mar-2022
• Idle surge and/or rough idle with high temperature in the catalytic convertor and/or sulfur odor in the cab

So this isn't a full recall? Only if you have the rough idle symptoms? My truck just got delivered to the dealer. Wonder if I could get them to apply the fix as a preventative measure

I wonder if this “fix” subjects the battery to overcharging? I wonder how they addressed this.

I wonder if this might relate to the “shudder“ that some of us experienced?

Mine was built around mid February so I while I haven't had the issue (yet) I'm glad there's been an update that could help if I end up having the problem.

Wouldn't you think they simply don't allow the high charge rate of the battery until the engine is warm?

Can this be applied with FORSCAN? Has any member had the patch applied?

No, this is probably above FORScan's paygrade. It mostly just modifies flags that allow code that already exists to run or not, or do so with certain simple parameters based on options.

Why is this is not a full scale recall?
Maybe they still do not have it nailed down completely, they need some field tests (guinea pigs) to verify or they figure,
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
They are not 100% confident in the fix or they wanna save face and avoid recall stigma.
I think that covers it all. Haha.
Clear as mud to me....

Our dealership would do this for free for our customers so they don't have a problem. I wouldn't submit to Ford under warranty if there are no symptoms though.

It only takes time, no parts (and the programming can be quite lengthy).
It would be worth asking your dealer if they'd make sure all the relevant modules are fully updated before you take delivery!

It’s a software update. Call your dealer service
