Tow limit is not low if you get a 25 or newer with AWD and 4k tow package. I tow a jayco jay flight slx 170bh. 3000lbs empty with 300lb tongue weight.

That's why you ALWAYS put the tailgate cables in the upper position when towing. It's the first thing I do even before installing the receiver... One note: put a cloth or sponge over the handle on the trailer tongue when you lower the tailgate or it will dent the tailgate (ask me how I know.)

Reminds me of how earlier D40 Nissan Frontiers had a real oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster. Due in part to the constant fluctuation of the gauge (but within the normal operating range) that caused a lot of unfounded warranty time, it was subsequently replaced with a "gauge" that has 3 needle positions: no pressure, acceptable pressure, over pressure.and dealers get fewer false alarm complaint's from drivers.
I believe the point that @Mavster Mechanic was trying to make is that the rear wheel wells are integrated into the front wall of the bed. Therefore to put anything in front of the rear wheels would mean it'd have to be on the back seat, or in the foot or so of space that is forward of the center of the rear axle but still in the bed.Yes Place your water containers in front of the rear whells, about 300 Poundsand have the 5th hitch over the wheels. There is room.
Seeing as the vehicle is factory-rated to tow 2-4k, I'd say that the engine is well within its design parameters. It might need to rev higher and it'd be helpful to drive with a bit more consideration for ambient air temperature and long hills, but the Maverick is certainly no Prius with a hitch (which isn't rated to tow at all).I wouldn't tow anything regularly. Not only the mileage issue but the smaller gas engine has to work harder than it was designed to work.
Great advice, and had I heard it earlier it would have saved me a small dent. Live and learn. That's why you ALWAYS put the tailgate cables in the upper position when towing. It's the first thing I do even before installing the receiver
