Towing with Maverick Hybrid

Thinking about getting a 17-foot Casita Spirit Deluxe, dry weight of 2,400 pounds. It seems like it would not be a problem. Just tring to decide hybrid or EcoBoost. I have a 22-maverick 1st Edition, Ruby Red hybrid.

I have a 16 foot Casita (about 200 lbs less) and I did a lot of research before buying. You should have no problem.

unfortunately I haven't been able to take it out yet. Hopefully this weekend or the next.

You will have no problems towing 2,400lbs with the Hybrid. My camper is 3000lbs dry. I towed it at 3750lbs 2 weeks ago when it was 100 out up and down steep hills. Only got about 14.3mpg and used a half a tank of gas but it did it and the temps never went above half.

I stand corrected on the Casita Spirit Deluxe, the dry weight is 2,210 and hitch weight is 280. Should be no problem for the Maverick with the 4K tow package. Here is a picture of it.

I love my pop up.

This tows great 2023 XL Hybrid FWD. Right at 1800 lbs dry. This has no wind face behind the truck. I have pulled this from Las Vegas to San Diego (Anza) area several times. Have had no issue with towing. Climbs up Calhoun pass and the grade out of Baker with no issues even in the triple digit heat while still maintaining traffic speed. At traffic speed mileage is about 20 mpg. Way better than the 2006 F-150 at 12-14 mpg. I added a 7 pin connector and powered the charging pin from the bed accessory port and use the Curt Echo blue tooth plug in for brakes.

BE AWARE the temperature gauges in all Mavericks are NOT PRECISE and have basically three positions:

1) Cold and warming up (only time it "moves")

2) Normal (you are between 180°F and
240°F) gauge does not move

3) Too hot - pull over now (above -240°F) I've never reached this.

Plus the gauge is for one thing only: engine water temperature like in a traditional vehicle.

It gives you no advanced warning of battery over heating, or motor or generator over heating. For those you will get a "ding" out of the blue and a textual message only.

All that said, the transmission oil will never overheat. I've tried. It's impossible with the built-in oil cooler all hybrids have.

Just towed 3000 lbs. uphill on a 108°F day. Transmission oil peaked at 167°F.
Most of the day it was in the 150's.

Engine water peaked at 221°F
Battery peaked at 122°F
Traction Motor peaked at 225°F
(Got a too hot message at 265°F on a different trip.)
Generator peaked at 245°F but I have seen 265°F with no message on a different trip.

GET A SCANGAUGE to see real temperatures in your truck.

Now I just back off some speed if any of the following:

Engine water > 225°F
Generator > 250°F
Traction Motor > 250°F
HV battery > 120°F

I find nothing else matters.
Temperature wise.
