Hey Folks, I am near the panic stage re. the two Torx screws holding the tie-down pad-eye. I am trying to install the bed storage box on the passenger side. Unfortunately, to install it, the tie-down fitting has to be removed. Stupid design. My two Torx screws are covered with the spray-in bed liner tar. WHAT WILL DISSOLVE THIS TAR-LIKE SUBSTANCE? In the old days, I used gasoline for this kind of project. Unfortunately, I don't have a lawnmower anymore, so no can of gasoline. I DO have denatured alcohol, which I am going to try. If this doesn't work, DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A SOLVENT? If push comes to shove, I can go to the gas station and get a small amount of gasoline. Your suggestions are welcomed: TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE, between rain storms. Thanks in advance.

get a little dremel type tool and grind it away carefully. I dont think gas will work. I've had lots of gas spills in my f250 spray in liner and it did nothing. actually cleaned it up nicely.

Cut/chip it out of the Torx head void and away with an x-acto knife. Score around the bolt heads so the bolt backs out cleanly w/o pulling off any surrounding liner.

I have a can of Herculiner and it says Xylene or Acetone to thin and cleanup, but not sure about after it is cured or other bed liner material. Using a chemical may undermine coating around it, so maybe try mechanical removal first as others have suggested.

Had the same problem...called my LineX SIBL installer and his recommendation was stay away from any chemicals or I'd make a mess. His comment was that a typical household class drill would not have enough power to penetrate the SIBL...and a long bit that wabbled would never penetrate. Took it to him and he had a very powerful drill and "SHORT" bits and he did all 8 of my bolts in less than 10 minutes...did not even charge me...but got a laugh out of it.

Definitely going to need to go the "mechanical removal" route. Since they are vertically mounted, I can't see how you would be able to keep any solvent on there in sufficient quantity to soften or dissolve it.

How covered/filled in are they? Could you cram a Torx bit in there and hope to have enough contact area to not strip it out if you go slow?

Thanks, Edge. I suspect that this is the way I will go. I bought a can of Acetone that I will try tomorrow, not suspecting much success. I will then call my salesman and get the Linex phone number from him. I hope my Linex guy is as helpful as yours was. I really can't fault Linex; they did a wonderful job on my bed. I just wish that I had known about the optional storage compartments, as I would have ordered two of them before I got the spray job. Live and learn.
Thanks, everybody, for your suggestions, but I think that Linex is the way to go, since they did the spray job in the first place.

Lacquer Thinner or paint stripper. Be careful, will eat through paint to metal. or forget the solvent and try to heat the area with a heat gun or propane torch. Good luck!

Why don’t you just invest 60 seconds with an X-acto knife and just pick the liner out of the Torx void of those 2 small bolt heads? It’s not rocket science.

The heat can help to soften the material to make it easier to remove. Again, Good luck!

Methyl Ethyl Keytone (available at most hardware stores). That stuff will desolve anything. Stinks REAL BAD but that's how you know it works.

I'd score around the bolt, and try tapping an old
extension to get the Torx bit in the bolt.
