Lol, my 1994 Ranger didn't get your memo about DIBL durability nor did anyone else's. Mine was in at time of sale in 2017 having been put in in 1995 having been parked outside its entire life. Looked the same as when I installed it.
Same with my 1998 F150 that was sold in this past February; it still looked like new for the most part with some scrapes here and there, one of the reason I sold it for more than targeted for.

Just keep in mind that it was made 25 years ego, there's no guarantee that the current DIBL had the same thickness/gauge as it had back then. It might just be less material with higher cost and call it "progress"....

Everyone has their own preference. I'm glad a DIBL worked for you.

Is the weather tech tailgate liner hard plastic or more like their floor mats?
The tailgate liner is flexible I have not installed it yet but I’ll post pics as soon as I have the sun out so the piece flattens out. It was folded in a 24 inch box to ship it.

I'd say that the Ford bought drop in liner was fairly thick but probably not as thick as the older ones from the 80s. I think the one for the old Mazdas and Ranger back then was a little bit tougher and heavier. I suspect the liner will last at least 15-20 years for the average homeowner. For business use by contractors who knows??

I figure you are referring to the DIBL over top of the Rhino sray in..

Even though the Rhino spray color closely matches the drop in bed you can see the difference at the back of the bed body. The Rhino covers a few more spots than the drop in. On the tailgate it is hard to see but the Rhino covers the full tailgate whereas the drop in liner is about 2 inches up from the bottom of the tailgate. The Rhino should protect the bed from scratches from the drop in liner. Like I said it is a tight fit but it does do in without any cutting down of the side of the drop in liner. Only around the LED light fixture did I remove some of the DIBL material and by the two places where they provided a support mounting bracket.

This is not an hour long project like the dealers claim. I spent a half day getting it all in and lining up and drilling holes in 90+ degree weather. I tested fitted parts first, then removed and reinstalled. Tyger 3 piece folding cover took me about an hour being careful and slow with it. It leaked at a hand car wash but I expected that.

Thanks for showing picture. My dealer wanted $265 labor to install the dibl. I’m 80 and decided to do it myself. Of course the hardest thing for me was cutting the holes on both sides. I ordered a jigsaw and it did ok for part of the way but it would hit something and I couldn’t go any further. What did you use to cut it? I did get the passenger side done but it wasn’t easy. The heat index in Georgia today will be around 110. I did use a box cutter but it was slow. Any suggestions would be helpful. As far as a spray in liner goes I had one before and after a few years the color faded. I hope this dibl doesn’t. Thanks, Ronnie

I cut the holes with a jig saw... Measured about where i had to cut temporarily installing pieces and then pulling back out to cut holes and retesting.. worked okay with just a jigsaw

Never a DIBL. Always a SIBL. A SIBL will last much longer that a DIBL, plus will not crack over time, not expand nor contract with the heat/cold.
Plus mice can't get behind a SIBL. Have one on my 2021 F150 and he keeps eating the bags of chicken feed I stored in there. I going have to take out the DIBL and have a SIBL done.

Find a rat or garter snake and put it behind your SIBL. 🐍 No more mice. You'll have snakes, but they won't eat your chicken feed.

This whole thing gives me massive "Why did they put shag carpet over pristine oak hardwood floors" vibes.

All the folks renovating old houses and tearing up carpet to find beautiful hardwoods underneath. Someday down the road @gp1200x is going to sell the Mav and the new owner is going to be saying "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat......."?!?

Get a cheap plastic container from Dollar Store, drill some holes in the lid and fill with moth balls. Problem solved. It will work best if you have a tonneau cover though.

I keep my vehicles for many years,,usually 20 on average as long as they run fine and look nice. I rustproofed the Maverick (PITA) but I wanted it to last 20 years. In 10 years I'll remove the dibl if it is cracked and worn out (highly doubtful since I never had one wear out although these newer ones are thinner) and then I will have the sibl still. Right now with boxes and parts in the bed I can't hear any bed noise over bumps so the soundproofing is great. Bought the DIBL before getting the truck and then I saw the quality work the dealer did on their Rhino jobs and went for it. I don't know what their Rhino material is but it is not the stuff you buy in a store and spray or paint on the bed. It's very thick, textured and somewhat soundproofing along with rustproofing all the bed corners and openings.

There is no place where a mouse could get behind this dibl. I had to use mallets to smack the liner into place since the bed dimensions are smaller due to the Rhino layer and the sides are all screwed down tight from the hooks I installed all along the sides. A mouse could get into the undercarriage but all the bed holes were sealed by the Rhino material. Even the tailgate is a tight fit with the material provided from the Tyger trifold. Now a chipmunk in the engine compartment is what I need to worry about since that happens every now and then if the vehicle sits for a month or two.
