My 2022 Maverick Hybrid has about 2650 miles on it in 10 months of ownership, and the oil life monitor says it's at 12%. Seems very short to me.

Owner's manual says never to exceed 1 year between oil changes.... I think the monitor is also taking time into account!

Yes, it's because of time.

If we say you're closer to 10.5 months, then that's 1.5 months remaining - every 12 months/10,000 miles is the upper bound, hybrid might push the miles a bit higher.

1.5 months / 12 months == 12.5%

It's not short oil life. It's exactly where it should be. IOLM factors in both time and usage.

Schedule your oil change soon.

Even if it just sits most of the time you should change the oil once a year.
Because that is what they do to every car sitting on the new & used lot.

If you drive a lot It also takes MPG into account.

Roughly after 300 gallons burned, time for an oil change.

300 x 42 MPG Oil will be up at 12,600 miles.
300 x 27 MPG Oil will be up at 7800 miles.

Miles isn't the best way to change your oil. You could sit in traffic
1000 hours and put no miles on it.

Wow...

I have 5300 on my truck and I have had 3 oil changes since delivery on 26 Nov 2022.

Some of you will be complaining in the future with the lack of basic maintenance you failed to perform.

Old saying, just cause you can doesn't mean you should.

You need to change your oil once a year or more if you drive a lot. I just had my oil changed yesterday after having my truck for 12 months. I have 2400 miles on it.

Because that is what they do to every car sitting on the new & used lot.

What make you think the dealers give a crap? An owner invested in the longevity will but a dealer is watching costs and just wants if off the lot. They also don't sit on the lot for year. If your turns are measured in more than weeks you have a problem.

Pro tip: when you buy a used car, change all the fluids asap.

Our 5 month old Ecoboost has 3700 miles on and the monitor says 68% left.maybe it's different driving style?
