Not a bad idea to let your second order go to a friend or family member at cost or very slight markup for your trouble. Beats having to overpay crazy dealer markups, that's for sure.
Don’t both buyers have to pay a tax on the sale?

It doesn’t matter if they cancel or not. The truck gets built and becomes dealer stock. It takes away from retail quantities
No, the dealer will “retail” that truck to someone else.

I can see people ordering with that strategy. But for those taking that approach, if you're only getting one, and it gets scheduled or built, please don't screw everyone else with legit retail orders by not cancelling the rest of the extra orders. I think a better system would be for all dealers to require a deposit to eliminate those not serious about purchasing or those trying to game the system. If someone is not willing to drop a deposit, then they either (A) aren't really that serious in purchasing or (B) are trying to place multiple orders to better their odds. I dropped a deposit because I am serious about buying this vehicle when it comes in. That is unless it doesn't get built due to the probably 20K duplicate orders that were made.
Even if people are cancelling their extra orders there is no way the dealer is going to cancel them. They will let them get built so they get it to sell.

Ford needs to have an online ordering system where the customer can order themselves directly with Ford and select which dealership they want to pick it up from. Perhaps you can still do all your financing etc with the dealer and they get paid the same as if they had ordered it.

This way if you want to cancel you can go in and cancel it yourself. If it's too late to cancel and it's on the way then Goes could advertise it as an available vehicle heading to that dealership and allow someone else to take over that order.

Thanks for your kind comments. I feel a little guilty ordering a second one when I haven’t even received the first one yet. I’ll be 15-16 months since ordering if I get a delivery by November. Just figured if I didn’t order a Lariat now, I’d probably be looking at 2 years to get another shot at one considering delivery times. I agree making multiple orders with the goal of flipping just isn’t cool when so many people are having difficulty purchasing them within the system.
How about the dealer taking fifty orders, knowing they only got ten in 2022 MY? Take fifty five hundred dollar deposits and sit on them for almost a year. Just an example of what my dealer has done. So why shouldn't I put in two orders. With the way things went this year I feel like I will be lucky to get either of them. Second dealer is much larger than my local dealer and does not add in $500 for paper work or other bull.

Honestly, we received our 2022 hybrid back in February and like it so much that we are ordering a 2023. However, we are planning on during a custom decal package and auctioning it off as a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization.

Started talking to Dealer A back in July about placing an order. Order date got moved out to September, didn’t hear back as Sept 15 approached. Placed order with Dealer B on Friday instead. Paper signed, deposit paid, email received, the whole thing. Dealer A finally called me yesterday saying we need to act fast. Left message saying I already have an order and don’t need this one. Got a second email from Ford at 10pm last night saying my order had been received from Dealer A, using the configuration I emailed them in July. So I guess I have a second order in my name, even though I never showed them my driver’s license or signed anything. Seems fishy to me, but I guess I might as well have him modify it to the configuration I ordered on Friday (minus a few extras) to see which one shows up first and cancel the other when one gets scheduled.

I’m not opposed to flipping, but I really don’t see it still being a possibility when I would finally get truck #2. The Carvana estimate is about $28k for the truck I just ordered with a $37k MSRP. Time will tell, but I think those days are over now

Why wouldn't you? The simple answer is for every order you put in that you don't need, your potentially taking a build slot away from a customer who actually wants a truck. Not saying that makes you a bad person. And it's the system allows you to do it, it's debatable off it's wrong or not. But that's a reason why you might not. Shoot I sometimes put my backpack in the overhead bin before everybody else is boarded, I know a lot of people would say that makes me a jerk. It's all a matter of perception

I don't think it makes you a "bad person" but I certainly would question your character. It's one thing if you are going to use the Truck for a little while and then sell it. Example: buying an Ecoboost while waiting on a Hybrid and then sell Ecoboost. But to just take advantage of supply constraints in order to make a profit off other working class people is kind of wrong. People complain about the dealers doing it.. now we have other Maverick owners doing it to each other.

So, how many orders (percentage wise) do people guess are multiples for flipping or to see what comes in first? I keep seeing it post, and find it aggregating to be honest. While I know it's allowed so fair game, it seems to be part of the problem in why we are having issues getting these things delivered. So how much in the big picture do you guys think this is?
I ordered 2 MY23, I'm not flipping mine; just not sure which one I want. I'm leaning towards the Lariat. Both are the same, except, that one is an XLT, and the other is Lariat.

As for people flipping cars for profit. In my state, there is a limit. If you sell/register too many cars in one year you get a letter from the d.o.t. more than 5, I think, and they require a dealer license.

Don't want to make money off my order just want my Maverick. Local dealer contacted me after I had already contacted other dealer. Hated to tell him I had already order as I still need their good will on my Bronco Sport with two recalls and a water leak.

When I called Ford Customer Service to make sure my order was good to go, they clearly had all my info on a screen in front of them, just off my phone number, before I even gave them my order number. Which tells me (former IT person) their system absolutely knows / shows if someone has ordered multiples, no matter where they ordered it. Which means if Ford WANTS to shove those folks to the back of the line, they absolutely can. Will they? Who knows.

if you agree in free markets, once the supply meets demand curve, and people can no longer flip these for any profit after tax/tags etc then they will abandon the order and it will be dealer stock. To further that, which will turn into multiple mavericks on the lot, which should equate to less ADM's and *gasp* maybe a discount.
