Went to Harbor Freight today and when I came out I saw this. It's a plastic cart so no damage but really, the cart return was right behind me and over a couple of spaces, they were to lazy so just left the cart there.

I hear ya. Parking lots are terrible for vehicle damage. That happened to me once with my Mustang. It rolled away from cart storage area because idiot didn't set it in right. Put a dent in my door!

I had this happen at work not that long ago. I was out collecting carts and an older guy (old enough to know better) asked if he could have one of my carts, so I said yes. So he grabs the first one out of my line but there's a crushed water bottle inside. What does he do? Instead of leaving it in the cart until he can find a trash can, he just tosses it right on the ground in front of me without a care in the world. Although I shouldn't have done it, I did confront him since that was totally uncalled for. He instantly goes into defense mode and rambles on to just do my job, you're not a hero, you're gonna get your a** kicked for talking to people like that, yada yada yada. All over a damn plastic bottle!

Once I told one of my managers about that confrontation, they of course defend the customer and called me out for confronting him in the first place. She said, "if you hadn't said anything, none of this would've happened, right?" So in essence, she's totally justifying his behavior and we have to just put up with it. I get that it's against company policy to correct people's behavior but what do they expect? Of course I would react to it, why wouldn't I? Especially since the guy did it belligerently right in front of me just to get a reaction. Between the customer and the manager taking his side, it's the unfortunate norm of society nowadays. Bad guys get their way and there's no justice in the world anymore.
Most, if not all, stores have a Do Not Confront policy on shoplifting, so why would a tossed bottle mean anything to them?
In my area, a local grocery store chain is closing three stores. What has always been the mantra in real estate? Location, location, location. Yup.

Tell you what. Our local Shop Rites a grocery chain have the chains that you need to put a quater in to get the cart. You get the quater back when it's returned. It works! I have never seen a cart that was not returned.
Aldi stores have the same setup.

Real sad , that society as a whole is leaning this way , I say we just keep on the right respectful way and let those people fall in their own cracks!
You can’t change people , all you can do is suggest and walk away if those suggestions are met with opposition .

Yes pure laziness and it’s not getting better. Everyone is in a big hurry today and don’t seem to care how their laziness can cause damage to another person’s vehicle. Ever look at how many people are so laze they have to have everything delivered or brought to their vehicle? Then they wonder why their ass is wide as a F 150! I better stop before I get out of hand. One solution I use, if possible is park far away and uphills if possible from cart area, but first drop wife off at front door of the business to prevent getting lectured why I park in no man’s land!

Think it works great! Shop Rites are these huge stores not a discount market.
I call it lazy. The depot store is worse. I never park near a cart corral.
I think the corral is the safest place. At least one side is protected. And try to make sure the on protected side is not down hill

When my Mav was 4 days old, I went to Home Depot and parked out in the far (empty) area of the lot. When I came out, someone had run a shopping cart into my door and dented it. This was no accident; the lot was level. Some people are not just ignorant. They're lazy, greedy and criminally jealous. I can only hope that karma will repay the favor down the road.

I try to park strategically to avoid the door dings but I know full well all may be in vain one day. That is inconsiderate laziness.
I feel you on that!, but lookie what I got (on day 3 of ownership). Thank You "landscaping truck & Trailer" Way out in a HD parking lot, Nice lady told me that a truck scraped it and did not stop.

Update: I love all the terms: Ignorant, A-holes, etc......I like to use the medical term: "CRANIAL RECTITUS" for people like that.

I was out shopping about 2 weeks ago and when I got back to my Mav there was a Crown Vic parked close to my passenger side. He must have just pulled in as he was still in the car. His window was open and I asked him to please wait to open his door until I pulled away. He was cool, kind of chuckled at me but he understood :)
I always try to park away from everyone.

When people go to the mall, they enter the twilight zone. They forget about everything. They forget about how to park within the lines. They forget how to return the carts to the proper area. Best of all, they cut across the parking lot without regard to the lanes. The parking lot is their domain and do not get in their way.

For sure, and then when you call them out, all of a sudden, you're the asshole. There's nothing worse than seeing a parent with entitled children doing something to mess up your property, and then deny it because their children are such little angels, and are incapable of doing anything wrong.
Ain't that the truth bro. Parents these days are clueless.

I placed the following on a vehicle that similarly damaged my vehicle and he called the police and wanted them to charge me for littering (smile). The police issued him an at-fault ticket for failure to report an accident (BIG SMILE) - The Officer commented he might have gone to extremes had this guy done the same to his vehicle.

Dear fellow drivers,

Seeing the lack of respect for others' vehicles in public parking lots is disheartening. It's important to remember that each car represents a significant investment for its owner, and it's not fair for anyone to damage it thoughtlessly. Whether it's throwing open doors without care, pushing shopping carts into other vehicles, or neglecting to return carts to their designated locations, these actions show a lack of consideration for others' property.

We all share these public spaces, and it's crucial that we treat them and each other with respect. Let's make a conscious effort to be more mindful of our actions and the potential impact they can have on others. Small gestures like closing doors gently, returning shopping carts, and being considerate when maneuvering in parking lots can go a long way in creating a more harmonious and respectful environment for everyone.

Let's address this issue directly and strive to be better, more considerate drivers. Our collective effort can make a significant difference in promoting a culture of respect and responsibility in public parking lots.

Funny thing is.. Back in the 1980's.
WE were considered "Selfish and Self centered"..
NOW a days... I don't know what you would call this behavior...

Call it green behavior.

Tell me about it. I was greeted to this after work last weekend. We had a freak thunderstorm roll through and someone must've panicked to get back in their car, swung their door open too wide and put a noticeably sized dent in my driver's front door. It's worth noting that I park far away from customers so they chose to park right on top of me. Now I have to pay out of pocket for someone else's negligence. Like someone mentioned already, it's the society we live in nowadays unfortunately.

That sucks. I had body side moldings put on. I had them installed above where your dent is. I may of had them installed to high. I did use a Silverado 4x4 and a Ford Focus to judge where those doors would hit. I guess every door is different so I guess I should park next to a Focus or Silverado to be safe.
