The brakes on the hybrid Maverick are a bit inconsistenot/touchier at times than the brakes on even a 15-year-old Toyota Prius. Still assume I’ll adjust to them in time.

I'm no stranger to hybrid brakes; the transition between regen to actual brakes and what that feels like. I've driven hybrids for years. However, the brakes on my hybrid maverick seem odd. In most situations I chalk it up to the fact that every car is a little different and that's fine. But in one particular situation I feel like the brakes are dangerous.

If I'm in stop/go traffic or at a stop light and barely have my foot on the brake, it's enough to keep the car stopped. When I take my foot off the brake, (don't apply any gas pedal) and I go to quickly reapply the brake it's like nothing engages for the first 20%-30% of the break push...way past where I just had my foot when the truck was stopped. The brakes eventually engage but they go from 0% to 100% and the truck dips forward because of the harshness of the brakes. I'm afraid one of these times I'm going to roll into the back of the car in front of me.

Is this a hybrid brake thing? Does anyone else experience this?
I am not experiencing this with my hybrid

I have experienced this and will be making a thread on an additional issue I am having-that seems to be brake related as well.

My hybrid always seemed to "hit the brakes" a little hard just before coming to a stop; I'm assuming this is when the regen stopped and the actual brakes kicked in. The software update for the "idle surge issue" also completely eliminated this somewhat annoying braking issue; braking was even and smooth after that. Know, however, that that particular update is only for Mavericks produced before mid-March.

Hoping you are correct about TSB 22-2124 also fixing the grabbing brakes. Going in on the 25th to get the TSB done.

Many others have noticed the same thing. The difference was unexpected but immediately noticeable (and welcome). :)

I wonder if this is fixed on more recent builds.

I've been noticing this occasionally with mine. Similar circumstances: release brakes fully, roll forwards about 3 mph, go to stop again and the pedal grows firm like brake application is happening but it barely slows unless you jam much harder on the pedal. Almost like you were trying to stop on ice.

I suspect it's a programming thing as my '14 Fusion Hybrid never had that behavior. It would rarely do the opposite where it brakes more abruptly as it nears a stop but that's less disconcerting.

I have noticed this behavior on my Maverick which was just built in April. Brakes on a previously owned Honda plug-in hybrid were much smoother.

experiencing this as well to the letter, low speed braking in parking lots or traffic hit the brakes softly to slow down gradually and no feed back at all same speed press hard and harder and harder and still nothing.....keep pressing a little hard then BOOM FULL 100% BRAKING POWER AND EVERYONE BOBS FORWARD, its unsettling and very uncomfortable and a few others have reported the same issue in other threads.

How can you tell if your truck needs that update?

Mine has been doing it too. Built somewhere in late Feb, early March. Most of the time its good, but in traffic it can act up more frequently.

My 2016 Fusion Hybrid never did it.
