It would probably just be a tsb.

Unfortunately I don't remember specifics, I thought I saw 6 mph for another Ford, maybe I am losing my mind. I assume the downside is less regeneration, lower MPG.

Won't pretend to know much about Hybrids, this will be my first, and I have only driven a '21 or '22 Corolla Hybrid for 3-4 days.
According to my couch research on google, regenerative braking in real world driving (overall driving, not a specific condition) can only account for a maximum of like 10-20% of energy returned, since there are so many losses to heat/friction, wind resistance, etc, that simply cannot be recovered.

The difference in the amount of energy consumed/returned at <6 mph vs <3mph seems like it would be miniscule fraction compared to the total energy possible to be recovered, which is already a fraction of energy expended.

Anyway I'm saying all that to mean if I could lose some regen and get some smoooov braking then by all means I would take that trade-off.

+1 more hybrid experiencing this
At first I thought it was a matter of learning a new vehicle's behavior, but after a couple thousand miles I'm realizing it's just dangerously inconsistent.

It's all the usual low speed scenarios... stop-and-go traffic, inching into a garage, and easing into parking. Sometimes lightly applying the brakes leads to a gradual stop as expected. Sometimes it does nothing until you stomp. Sometimes a light touch acts as if you stomped. Sometimes it doesn't let you move until you totally release the brake (without auto hold turned on), then it lurches forward.

The times where it grabs abruptly are annoying and make it hard to do minor movements when parking, but there are also times where the pedal is spongey and you don't stop until a panic-induced kick.

I still love the vehicle overall, but the brakes are 2/10 and get mentioned as a warning every time someone asks about it.
Hey there! I can look into your Maverick’s brake concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info?

Picked up my Hybrid yesterday. Can't tell a difference in it from the brakes in my Eco, other than slowing down a little quicker when not on the brakes.

Haven't put many miles on it, so hoping that I don't see an issue down the road. I was in quite a bit of bumper to bumper, and tried to get the symptoms described here in a parking lot, and I could not replicate.

Fresh out from Ford: they know about it and are working for a software patch to fix it...

Oct 21 2022 2022 Maverick - 2.5L FHEV - Brakes Grab During Light Braking When Applied At OrBelow 6.2 Mph (10 Km/h)
Some 2022 Maverick vehicles equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit a condition where the brakes may grab during light braking at or below 6.2 mph (10 km/h). This may be due to the software in the anti-lock brake system module (ABS). This condition does not affect vehicle safety/performance and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to safely drive the vehicle, and engineering is currently developing a software update that is expectedin the last week of November 2022. Once the software update is available, contact the customer and schedule a follow-up appointment for repair in December 2022. Monitor OASIS for updates

Finally!!!!!! Although I disagree that it is not a safety condition.

I wonder if it will also address the low brake response in slow stop & go conditions which has been more common in my experience.

I guess the only good thing about being rolled to a ‘23 is that all of these issues “should have been” addressed by then.

Ford's threshold on which defects constitute a "safety issue" is much higher than the typical driver's... See also: DCT fiasco.

I wonder if they could be shipping with an update to ABS , or will I just need the break in period before I experience it ?

I literally cannot tell a driving difference outside of increased deacceleration when off the gas.

I have only driven 1 other Hybrid (22 Corolla recently) , but have probably driven hundreds of vehicles as I was a paid driver for a dealership for a few years in college, and have driven all different types of vehicles.

I was pretty worried about needing to "learn" the braking system and live with this odd behavior, and I 100% believe everyone so not discrediting anyone on it. I consider myself lucky to not have seen it, at least yet ( knock on wood )

Coast down riding the brake pedal very lightly. See if you feel a change in deceleration usually greater, a "grab" at 3 mph. This is when the hydraulic brake pads hit the rotors. They usually clamp down a little too strongly. But a lot has to do with the driver and exact pedal position.

I'm just grateful that I'm not losing my damn mind. I've taken to putting it in L if I'm in slow traffic. That seems to be a help. But like someone said earlier, it is similar in coming off the brake without the Auto Stop on-you really got to hit the accelerator to move forward. I learned to drive on a stick shift and have driven many different types of vehicles. This is a bit unnerving when it happens, but again it doesn't happen all the time. But low speeds-like pulling onto a street or just creeping forward in traffic is when it happens to me.

Well it almost always happens at 3mph.

Temporary work-around:

Don't drive 3 mph.

Keep it 2 or less in the garage.
Keep it 4 or more in traffic by leaving space.

Just sayin'

Not sayin' it's fun

I'm sure it will be fine. I once drove a car around on rear brakes only for a few months. Just a little getting used to.
Rear brakes only, sounds like something most Harley riders used to do.
