WHY would Ford not have a locking gas cap on Maverick? It should be offered standard....or very least as an option. I would pay more the have a locking one.
Go buy one!

That is something you never now until its too late! Do you think that no one ever screws with someone's unlocked tank nowadays? I'm not sure but I'd rather be safe than sorry. If the fuel door is always locked when the car is locked as someone question, then that would be OK. But if not, I'm not comfortable with that.
Will try to remember to ask Tim Bartz.
How many times have you had your gas siphoned, or sand poured into your tank ?

Ah, but it is lockable. Ford sells this.

At present time, there is NO known fuel plug. This will not fit Maverick. I have checked with various auto part stores as well as Ford parts and they all said there is not a plug that fits Maverick. Even tried several plugs. Hope the after market catches up and makes a plug soon.
The other thing is that even though you lock your tank, the person that is stealing gas just punches a hole in the tank to get gas. ie. Its a no win situation.

A locks only keep out honest people and deter mischievous youth. A thief would damage the vehicle to remove the lock, and still get what they want.

I had a locking cap on a vehicle once. after a couple months I got rid of it, because remembering the key every time I wanted to fill up was a nuisance and half the time you had to fight with the cheap mechanism to get it to unlock. I was more afraid of not being able to unlock the cap than someone tampering with my tank. :)

It’s hard to steal the gas without the thingy you put in the thingy. You know, the thingy they give you that’s stored in the thingy. How many gas thief’s carry a thingy with them?
Well I guess if they are a modern gas theif they would have the thingy. I tried to pour gas from a can into my F 150 was not aware I needed one of those. Only car I have that has no gas cap.

No one has mentioned that very soon there will be NO GASOLINE nor a reason for it to be stolen.

Everyone on this forum will be dust, and there will still be petroleum products. Electric or solar 747's are a long way off, if ever. Non-petroleum ocean going transports aren't even a dream yet. Relax.

This saved Ford $15-20 on every Ecoboost. So that's why they do it. Lots of cars have remote releases, lots do not. I doubt the manufacturers who have it think "people won't like this" & I doubt people who do have them complain about having to hit a switch or pull a tab.

It seems to me that cat theft is a much much much bigger problem, and manufacturers haven't solved that yet.
