I have a 23 hybrid I am trying to fill tank from a 5 gallon can, the hose goes in opening, but it just overflows, nothing does into tank. I bought a battery operated filling device but the same thing happened. What do you do if you(God forbid) run out of gas ??

You can't fill directly from the container. There is an ant-siphon valve in there. Use the provided adapter. It should be in the jack bag or under the rear seat. This has been standard on Fords for 13 years now.

As always. RTFM
Read the F@cking manual
It’s right in there under fueling
The part you need is under your back seat
RTFM. Almost everything is in there, including a lot of stuff you don’t need.

Incidentally, there are vanes or "fins" inside the adapter filler tube that are designed to provide a smoother flow of fuel and reduce splashback. In my experience with the tapered spout on my can, this design makes those issues worse. I knocked them out with a standard screwdriver and the flow of fuel is now unimpeded and there is zero splashback. If you experience these problems with your particular gas can spout, this modification may correct it.

RTFM? NO! Ford didn't want me to read it or they would have given me one instead of hiding it in the infotainment system or having me search online for it! I usually sit down and skim through one after getting a new vehicle, but I am not doing that sitting in my truck or reading on my phone. $40k and I don't even get a manual. I expect it with a video game, but not with something as complicated as a new vehicle with all the advanced electronic systems. So, I will wait until I have a problem and the search for an answer.

if that’s the case, then you’re also gonna need to know that the manual fuel door release is underneath the wheel well that’s in the manual as well. The manuals are pretty easy to find online ….probably just about as hard as coming here. But here you get Jovial abuse with info..

For some reason this was omitted this in the manual, printed or online. 🤣
The fluid guidance adapter that Ford includes with your Maverick is a dual use product. Keep it handy on long trips, along with a disposable storage receptacle and you can extend your range.

RTFM is not particularly helpful (and a bit rude). 550+ pages covering every option possible creates a confusing jumble of information. Yes, there is an index for looking up specific options, but if someone can't ask a simple question on this forum, then what is the forum for?

I submit that "Lack of knowledge of Ref. A" (a phrase used by the military that means RTFM before asking) is more common than you might think.
So many of the questions posed in this forum would have been rendered unnecessary if reading wasn't so hard.
