An issue like this is truly a terrible let down. I certainly hope my Hybrid doesn't follow this lead. However, remember that what one man can make another man can break. Rather its intentional or not?

Its called the Ridgeline...

Yep, and if it came in a hybrid form for under $30k, many of us likely would have bought one instead.
Instead, my first Ford and "truck" is a Maverick. Most new vehicles are reliable. Hoping one didn't win the lemon lottery, is the best we can do.

When we buy the cheapest truck on the market, we best be prepared for some issues. I sold an awesome 2018 F-150 Lariat when I ordered a Maverick Lariat 2.0 EB, knowing it would lack some features and qualities of my F-150. I made the move because the small truck will suite my needs of this 75 year old retiree, and my out-of-pocket cost to get it on the road will only be $2K plus registration and insurance. In a couple years or so, Toyota and Honda will have compact trucks competing with the Maverick, and I will have alternatives if the Maverick disappoints me.

I see all these issues for older builds. My maverick hybrid is arriving in two weeks.
Has all these issues... mainly dead battery been resolved yet? Thanks!

Cheap shouldn't equal issues . Cheap should be associated with overall feel of the vehicle such as NVH, interior materials, maybe even fit and finish.

Just because Ford has a cheap truck, shouldn't mean that people are left stranded out of a vehicle of weeks+ waiting on it to be fixed due to poor design and/or quality control.

Good design at an affordable price isn't thing of the past.

Many years ago, a Ford customer was so unhappy about his car, that the drove it onto the lawn at Ford headquarters (in California, I think) and set it on fire. When interviewed, the head of Ford said that it was one of their less expensive models so, "what did the guy expect?"
There was Ford's attitude about it's customers who bought cheap. Sometimes I think that attitude is alive and well today.

I stand corrected.

Lol Hondas are eons ahead of Ford. All automakers have issues but there is no comparison. Having owned Chevys Ford's Toyotas and Mopar. If Honda made a small truck I would jump on it.
Hello.

you are an idiot

Sincerely ,

every Honda Ridgeline

Sorry to hear about the OP's problem. I guess there will always be a bad apple in the bunch.
My 22 Hybrid just hit 100k miles last week. Knock on wood, so far so good.
The reality is, most people have your or my experience. But because we rarely talk about it, people think issues are more common than they are. It's actually similar to a concept called mean world hypothesis. That pertains to people consuming negative media, like forms of news on the T.V. developing a more cynical view of the world, and society, because it's all they're exposed to. This is despite the fact that society has always had its problems, and we just hear about them more now. It's basically the same thing with the reliability of any product. We hear bad things more because forums mostly exist for complaints, so we assume said bad things are happening more than they are in reality.

The Ridgeline has all the drawbacks of the Tacoma, and sante Cruz in one product, I can see why no-one wants them. It's overpriced, and isn't great in terms of fuel economy, like other midsized trucks. But it's also ugly, with a small bed, and no off-road capabilities like a sante Cruz. The worst of both worlds.

If Honda was smart, and that's a big if, they'd either lean in one of three directions for the third gen Ridgeline; making it smaller to compete with the maverick and SC, making it beefier, with a body on frame design to take on the ranger and Tacoma, or kill it outright. Based off how sales are going, I expect them to pick option C.

I received the dreaded "Stop Safely Now" message a few days ago and the truck would not move.

I scanned the truck hoping it might be something simple. At first glance it seemed to be. I had a code for the camshaft position sensor.
So I thought, maybe I just got a bad component, it happens, no big deal.

Got the truck towed to the dealer and they called me back a few days later. The technician says the engine is actually out of time, and that the circuit and sensor check out.
OUT OF TIME AT ONLY 7700 MILES??

For you that may not understand what I am saying, the motor has jumped timing somehow, the crankshaft and camshaft are no longer spinning in unison.

This does it for me. This truck will be sold once it is fixed.

NO MORE FORDS. Wait for months to get the thing, and only get to drive it about 6 months before a catastrophic failure like this?? Garbage.
I had a similar experience in a late 90’s Pontiac grand am. Engine died would crank but not start, turned out a small rock had managed to get inside crank cowl and bust the crank sensor, an easy fix hope yours is as easy.
Remember techs are like doctors some are better at diagnosis than others. 😀

Sorry to hear about your problem, I must have gotten my 23 made on a good day as I have had none of the new model issues I have read about on this forum. Being a mechanic myself, I am highly suspicious of the jumped timing issue but like others have said, it is not impossible. Being the 2.5L is a clearance motor (meaning if timing fails, contact between pistons and valves can occur) also makes me suspicious of a misdiagnosis. On the bright side, should you decide to sell, you will probably do well as resales have been higher or close to purchase price. Also keep in mind that NO vehicle is perfect and even Toyota's and Honda's can have issues too.
