Lousy gas mileage?

I think you need to give the display a little more time to show amore accuracy. I've had my (decked out), CG Lariat for just over a month now, and am only on my 2nd tank with about 425 miles on it. Right now, the display shows 24.3 mpg. It originally showed fairly low mpg and has increased steadily. The highest I have attained (in the display) was 24.4. as seen in the pic at my 1st fill-up With only a few minor exceptions (driving home from the dealer like you), almost all of my driving has been short 7 mile stints to and from work - 'city' driving with a couple hills. I know the display is probably not 100% accurate, but betting it is a relatively close. Based on what I've been seeing on the display, I don't expect much further change until I start accumulating more open road miles, vs. stop and go. I do tend to drive like an old man (I am).

One note: My auto start/stop is not currently working, and I will be taking it to the dealer to see why. I originally thought I would dislike this feature from past experience with rental cars. I almost bought one of those $100 devices I read about in this forum - before I got my truck! But, when it was working, I did not find it to be as annoying as I thought - a fairly seamless stop or restart without any hesitation. I doubt a big change, but I think it would have added a tenth or two to the overall mileage if it was working.

could also be low mpg from anyone sitting in it after a test drive for a while. might try resetting the trip.

Got 1k miles on mine, getting right on the 25mpg promised with every day driving (very little stop and go though). As everyone says, might give it some time and miles for it all to settle in.

The window sticker says I'm supposed to be getting a combined 25 MPG but on the dash when I'm driving it, it says I'm only getting 13 MPG? I am only driving it around town and the only highway driving I've done is home from the dealership. I was irritated by the engine stop and have shut it off a few times but not enough that it would make any difference? I have less than 300 miles on it . And for the rude jerk, this is my first time ever on a site like this and judging from how many post's you have this must be your whole life and you could try being helpful instead of being an ass.

Worst I get in heavy in town traffic is about 20. Average highway milege at 70mph is 35.

I would run the tank down on gas below half a tank, then reset the trip odometer and mileage measuring indicator thing when I filled up. There's no telling how long the vehicle idled or was jockeyed around the lot before you got it. Idling mileage is 0, and just really short runs take their toll on mileage as well.

Once you have a fresh tank of gas and you're the only one driving, you can get a fresh start. I'm certain that you'll see much better mileage as a result.

The only way you’re going to get an accurate gas mileage check is to do the old fuel at xyz pump…..go through a tank….then refill at exact xyz pump.

The computer in the truck can be calibrated .

I have a 22 EB AWD and have a trip running since new (14200 miles). And I show 32.1 over 14200 miles combination city…country roads….and highway..

In the summer I get a consistent 35/36 on the highway. ExtreM cold brings that down to maybe 31 or so.

I quickly skimmed the replies and didn’t see this mentioned, but maybe I missed it—you can configure the dash to display two different readings of your mpg. One shows your live or real time (they call it Instantaneous fuel) mpg. Basically, if you’re hitting the gas it will go way down immediately.

There is also a trip mpg (called average fuel) which will show you one of your two trip tracking mpg which will continue to average your overall mpg until you hit the trip reset. This will generally average out to what your truck is rated for based on whether you are driving city vs highway more. Whenever you do hit the reset, it will start out with ridiculously low mpg. I think this is the default for the dashboard display.

Lastly, there is also a temporary read out of your specific driving session every time you turn off the ignition. This includes an mpg calculation, that is pretty accurate.

As many others have mentioned it sounds like you got a ecoboost with either the AWD or possibly the off-road drive train. The off-road does have a lower mpg than the AWD. Regardless, your mpg readout will be quite low when you start driving for the real time/instantaneous reading or when you reset the trip averaging. If you are accelerating hard a lot, then expect you may not even get the low average of 22 mpg for city (assuming you have the AWD).

My 22/XLT/FX4/lux/4Ktow was 2 years old few weeks ago, I only have 11k miles[retired] I was getting 17/18 mpg, I do 95% local driving and now down to 14mpg I assume its because of the heat and idling time with the AC blasting. The few times I took 100 mile trips I have gotten mid 30s as high as 38mpg in cooler weather was very happy with that. Iam sure when it cools off and break in period your mileage will improve. Check your tire pressure most dealers don't set them during the PDI, mine were in the 40s psi, on my way home from dealer my first reaction was this think rides like a TRUCK. As stated by few other guys give it a few tank fulls.

I just picked up mine 2.0 ECO on the twentieth. First 400 miles and I’m getting 26-27 combined. I’m guessing you’re not looking at the correct numbers OR reset the MPG meter. (Meter?). Either way, fear not, I’m sure you’re not getting 13 MPG without something horrible going on.

ah, ignore that number - go and fill it up and drive it around for a week and note the milage and distance, then go fill it up again and check how much you put in and to the math yourself and compare it to what the car says. Likely they'll be be back within estimates/you'll find that doing the math on your own results in having the milage within estimates/or you'll find that if you're still only getting 13mpg that you need to take it back and have them look at it.Likely a fluke, there is really no way you're only getting 13 mpg unless you have a gas tank leak or maybe one of the brakes is seized up on one of your wheels (you can touch each wheel after driving around for a while and see if one of them is a lot hotter than the others). In the end...it'll all be fine you won't be getting 13mpg.

I have 2200 miles on my Maverick Ecoboost. It is averaging between 28 and 29 miles per gallon. Like others have said, 300 miles isn't enough to really get a valid reading. The computer reading is not always 100 percent accurate. Do the math and keep up with it the old fashioned way. I think you will find that your mileage will be a lot better than 13.
