That's odd your reporting this. Like you I've had mine for two weeks, not enough time to have used a tank of gas yet but I'm doing better than the advertised amounts. I've seen it as high as 60+ and as low as the mid 30's on my short 3 mile in town commute to work. On the highway at 45 to 50 MPH I average close to or about 50. Electric mode at least a third of the time or better every trip. Can I ask if the AC is being used or if your driving style is heavy on the accelerator?

Here's an example...

Is the speed limit on your local highway low, or do you only drive up to 50mph to maximize mileage?

because the speed limits in my neck of the woods are between 60-75. The most common is about 70mph. And that’s the speed limit not the for of traffic. I couldn’t imagine driving 45 on the highway

Oh yeah, I drove that slow and enjoyed every mile. Two lane rural county road posted for 55 I think. Sunday evening drive to a town the next county over for a nursing home visit. About 80 miles round trip once a week for three weeks now plus my regular commutes and I've still yet to stop at a filling station. 600 mile club here I come on the 1st tank.

I really like this truck... the box, the cab, the storage, the price, the hybird drive train. I bought this truck as a replacement for a 2000 S10 and it's better than I anticipated. Given that its a mid-year production 23' I'm hoping I have avoided all the earlier teething problems with the 22's.

I have had it up to 65 once. If the limit was that and there was traffic I would drive the posted limit. No traffic and I would check it down. My figures are probably a bit of an anomaly on this forum but my drive is too. Lots of gentle rolling hills and some plains. My urban commute is in a town of 3,000+ so I really only stop or pause for one light or a stop sign.

For the record I've always been a slower than posted or posted limit driver. I stay off the four lane highway as 65 in actuality means 75 or more for most. That isn't why I bought this truck though. My decision was based solely on price and economy. The box was a bonus.

Very short trips of a mile or two with A/C on always return poor MPG because the ICE runs longer than "normal" in order to get warmed up, and the fuel system runs richer at the start too.

Generally speaking less than 55mph is city driving and over 66mph is highway driving!

People not hitting the city rated in the city have to be heavy footed, not coasting, braking late, and thus skipping the regen. If you are in the 30s you simply aren't driving it correctly.

My wife, who drives more aggressive than I, will easily hit the 42 rated. My driving has me in the 55-60 range on a regular. One day I decided to hyper-mile the truck and hit 109.

Use the brake coach feature to learn how to coast and maximize your regen and stopping. Follow the other points given in this thread on getting up to speed and then kicking in the electric motor to continue your coast/maintain speed.

Perhaps you're "babying" it too much. Hybrids do best when you promptly bring them up to speed and then "pulse and glide" to maintain a desired average.
I know some find it a game, but that sounds like an PITA if everyone who posted nearly 40mpg had to switch driving style like that. I thought those #s were just business as usual?

Well, it becomes almost a habit. And is a bit of gamesmanship. I use care to not affect traffic behind me. The biggest problem is switching from my conventional car the the hybrid. Right now it's a Toyota, still waiting on the Mav. Even not doing this the mileage is well within EPA figures.

I do nothing special and drive it like a regular vehicle, and am averaging 42 mpg over 15k miles.

It will take a couple of tanks of fuel for the computer to actual properly calculate the mpg (and even then it may be off by a couple miles).

I’d not worry about he mileage until you have 1500 miles on it, then see how it is doing.

Some of you all sound like you’re borderline hyper miling. I’ve driven other hybrids with worse posted MPG and haven’t had to do any of this to get close to the posted MPG. I’m averaging 34 mpg in the Mav (mostly city) which is almost lower than both the city and highway mpg ratings.

I had the opportunity to compare fuel mileage over and identical route 250 miles, first lightly loaded with the bed cover on, 41 mpg. Then with an empty small trailer and no bed cover, 38 mpg. Fully loaded trailer and bed, 33 mpg. Mostly 70 mph, highway with slight or no wind.
