Ford sells a PHEV Ranger Stormtrak- plugin hybrid with 2.3 Eco boost

Uh - not using the eCVT though.

Any reasons why a 10 spd is more desired?

1. of course not, ecvt is transverse fwd and the ranger is longitudinal rwd.

2. that's the only longitudinal rwd transmission Ford makes these days.

I get the impression what Ford wants to emphasize with this new vehicle is the simplified modular assembly. In addition to being revolutionary, it should simplify production, which should reduce production cost. But time will tell.
I don't want to give the impression of shilling for China, but very high levels of automation, aggressive simplification, and supply chain efficiencies is how BYD is able to sell a decent car like the Seagull for $7,800 now. Kinda ironic in many ways a century after Henry Ford and the Model T.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out between the federal government retreating from EV support, Tesla in trouble, and possible union problems if robots replace too many people. It's a gamble, probably terminal if it fails as one article claims, but I would 100% agree with Jim Farley that affordable EVs are the best bet to survive and thrive long term. I actually bought a little Ford stock today in the oh well, high risk slice of a retirement I'll probably never enjoy.

Name a technology where capitalist industry worked with each other and worked together to fund R&D for all.
1) The Ford/GM 8-10 speed automatic transmission.

2) the Ford/Mazda 4-banger (2.0l in a Miata; 2.5l in a Focus).

3) Linux, the Apache server, Postgres, and other open source software developed primarily by programmers hired by companies that use it.

4) back to cars, the Top Tier fuel standard (which comes from manufacturers, not fuel companies.

And once Cold Fusion is figured out and miniaturized enough to fit in and provide enough power to a vehicle,
Yeah, but after a few months being excited by the car, it stops running when they discover CF isn't real.
🤪

Most people's cars sit still
23 hours a day.
Fast charging is unnecessary.
A point, but for most, no more than 14 of those will be at home.

Why a transmission to start with if it's an EV rather than hybrid. Outside of some odd use cases, even a 2 speed isn't necessary on an electric.

Those look like joint ventures for the benefit of the two partners in each. And neither of those approaches the level of making practical EVs that can replace ICE-powered vehicles.

I know it's a super tiny detail, but I'm just tearing through all the press material I can find on this truck to analyze. This is from a vid of factory workers who were shown the truck. This is the room they were in when they actually saw the truck, so this could be it, or it could be another product.

All you can make out is the right shape of the roof and the height, but from that, it looks pretty sleek and low to the ground, this makes the ranchero name make even more sense if it's like some modern revival of that which is what I want to see.

It seems that a lot of people think that it's a 100%, black/white decision over EV and ICE, that you can't have both available.
Calm the F down, it's just an additional way to power a vehicle, it's not a cultural heritage.
It would be nice if there were several methods/engines available, from gasoline to electric to diesel to hydrogen to natural gas to gasifier to things I can't even think of.
And once Cold Fusion is figured out and miniaturized enough to fit in and provide enough power to a vehicle, most of the other stuff will just be for vintage enthusiasts. You'd buy a car with a lifetime of propulsion; which I suspect would be similar to "lifetime" lubricants...

That is, if people still individually own vehicles that just stay parked unused 20+ hours a day. I suspect self-driving car subscriptions will be the norm, so we can have a LOT less iron sitting around, and the same convenience.
It’s coming in the future

Range=450 miles,
At home charge time from 20%-100% 2 to 3 hours,
Dependable down to long nights at zero degrees, a must.
Winter battery warming system cutting range by no more than 15%,
Ability to replace individual cells as they fail, plug in no solder cells, user replaceable is a must.

As for an EV truck. 450 mile range with a thousand pound cargo load,
Able to tow 6,000 pounds with 250-350 mile ranges,

These are the things that would make me and many give a serious look at an EV.

Made in the US, bigger than the Maverick, total EV.
For $30k - starting base model obviously.

What in the world must they have left off that model to hope for $30k in 2027?

What could be removed from the XL currently to get it back down to say $20k now?
They have redesigned the layout, and production processes. 4,000 less feet of wiring. Simplified everything. But will not be more stripped down than the Maverick.

Which is why they called it the "Model T" moment. Model T was the car that became affordable for everyone. It was the first car to use a production line. It got cheaper every year, as efficiencies increased. At one point almost one of every 2 car owning families had a Model T.

Production is well thought out, and making the difference!

That will be an expensive EV truck. Maybe the Silverado. They just got 1,000 miles out of one.

I agree, but I would add the one thing that would make it impossible to work for me right now. Priced no more than a gas vehicle. Now if the only thing available is EVs then I have no choice. Until then I won't buy until it gets what you posted, or better, for the same price as a regular car.

in 1925 if you said there would be nuclear power plants, people would point at you and laugh. Also if you said there would be portable telephones that allowed you to have real-time motion picture conversations with anyone anywhere in the world. Or that in less than 75 years after the first powered flight there would be men playing golf on the moon.

Technology and innovation are funny things.

This is why government mandates happen.

Or you’ll buy when gas hits $8 a gallon, and it will one day.
