They'll launch one when it makes sense. Given they're limited by battery cells, there's no reason to put them in a truck that makes you pennies when you can put it in a truck that makes you dollars.

As far as GM scaling back, yeah, it makes sense. Interest rates are through the roof and consumers are tired of getting pinched. So the first thing to go out the window is their willingness to spend 100k an an electric truck.

Honestly I don't think it makes sense to pay 100K for a vehicle even if rates are 0%.

It is unlikely that this is true. I could see GM scaling back their EV production like Ford just announced but not cancelling it all together.

And could you ever see the day when worldwide supply chain problems, 3 simultaneous strikes, outrageous used car prices, even more outrageous new car prices, incredibly limited availabilty on the most wanted cars, waiting 1,2,3 years for delivery, skyrocketing inflation, higher interest rates, would happen?

Yeah I remember the same about antilock brakes. "But I can stop sooner without them". Or seatbelts, "they will trap you in the car". Used to be I would never hear this nonsense line in the sand thinking, but now with the internet everyone thinks they can see the future.

I say if you're so good at telling the future, what are you doing typing on a Maverick forum? Where are you inventing your money since you have such a good handle on what is and isn't going to happen?

My crystal ball sucks and I can even see a Maverick EV coming. Limiting factor for Ford Hybrid and future vehicles is still battery production. Same for everyone else making EV's. Tech is good and sound. For $50K you can get 300 miles with <30 minute 0-80 charging and that's been for the last year. Lately I've heard 15-18 minutes to 80% on Tesla and Hyundai newest models. So 4 hours of driving and a 15 minute stop, very similar to ICE. So much newness coming on the horizon for both EV and ICE it won't be long that mainstream buyers can have a real comparable choice.

Will EV's be 100%? Probably not with Porsche investing 100M in synthetic fuels, but ultimately the consumer will strike the balance, not the manufacturers.

I agree it's not canceling. I certainly believe there is going to continue to be a decent demand for EV but I don't think there is going to be a massive shift., more like slow and steady over time.

Yeah I agree. Right now EVs aren't for everyone but there is a place for them with some consumers.

Toyota was one of the few manufacturers to be honest with themselves, and the public, about the future of EV’s, when they announced no plans to replace ICE/hybrids with EV’s.

I'm thinking there is a fair amount of people waiting on better and more stable prices for EV. The market on EV vehicles is just not very predictable. Prices raise then they fall and back a forth. Very volatile. I personally think government incentives need to be removed and manufacturers need to focus on making them more affordable. That would stabilize prices. I test drove a Mach-E and I liked it a lot. A large pick up EV just isn't a great idea IMO. Hybrid is a better choice there.

I think Ford would have done themselves a big favour by doing a Maverick EV instead of the Lightning. This is sort of hard to believe but I suppose it's possible.

Ignoring the current inflationary economy, unless or until EVs become price competitive with the ICE alternative, without the need for tax subsidies, it will never achieve mass market appeal.

GM and other manufacturers are simply making public the private part that we have all already known: EVs are more expensive to produce and the market that actually wants them might be saturated at this point. And given how much they cost, it might take a while for demand to return as those same buyers may end up sitting on them for longer than the typical ICE owner.

WSJ said GM is cutting back their over-ambitious goal of producing 400,000 EV by next year and are shutting down the Bolt this year as they roll out new EV models this year and next.

I don't know I'd be in the maket for a completely electric vehicle, but the idea of a hybrid that I could use in town that runs only on the battery, but can still take an indefinate length trip on the highway without needing to recharge sure interests me.

There was talk of a hybrid Maverick that could run soley on the battery for ~ 30 miles and of a AWD hybrid Maverick. That's what caused me to lean towards a Maverick for my next new vehicle. Sadly neither option came to pass in the 2024 model, but I was hooked enough to buy one anyways.

Come on Ford, grant my wish in 2025! I might even spend a little bit more if I needed to. Not too much though.

Read what I said: Toyota has no plans to REPLACE ICE with EVs which is what Ford and GM had planned.
